Fact Check: do tourists visit Britain because of the royal family?
If we didn't have the Royal family our tourist industry would be finished, I mean who would want to visit London to see Sunak, Khan or Starmer FFS. |

I would have thought anyone who is native to the UK would at least have some idea about the Royal Family, they have been part of our history for 900 years the late Queen was a direct descendant of Alfred the Great
Like then or loath them they we do not pay their personal bills , when Kate gave £2,000 to the Irish Guards as she was not well enough to attend their St Patricks Day Parade that came out of her back pocket not the taxpayers.
The only money the Monarch gets each year is a percentage of the yearly profits from the Crown Estates which is run by an independent body, none of the other Royals get a penny, each year the Government allocates roughly £35 million to the Monarch to pay for the upkeep of Buck House and Windsor and pay for all the Royal Engagements each year.
The Monarch and the rest of them have their own income from property they own, or investments from inherited wealth over the years,

There are men and women all over the country with cancer who aren't getting the best healthcare available and who aren't being deified. It's like that ''the people's Princess'' bollocks all over again. Maybe you are right Monte, but on the other hand I am sure there also a lot of sufferers who can relate with her condition. |

Some heads of PR need to roll.Yeah, the Palace is clearly still playing the 20thC PR Game, and the world has moved on and they are totally out of touch. The photo was disastrous from a PR point of view - it was always going to be once it had been digitally altered, and the Palace PR machine can't pretend to be ignorant of K Notices. The "Hey, I have cancer but jumped the NHS queues even though the Taxpayer pays for my healthcare" footage was almost as damning; could have slipped it through IMO had the photo fuster-cluck not already happened.
