Heres a poster from 1910, thats over a century ago , from the labour party promising to abolish the house of lords. Something they have promised to do , but never once done , in every election since.
Hilarious.
Not sure whats more hilarious , labour promising to abolish the HOL or the fact some people actually believe them.
Back then the HoL was full of Tories. Full of people who had inherited their place as Peers and provided a major backing for the Conservative party and their ilk. It should have been abolished back then, but since then, thanks to New Labour the title of Peer of is now for life and is not transferable to members of the family. Those hereditary Peers that still exist will be the end of the line for their family. The idea that the present HoL can be improved upon is open for discussion which includes the possibility of it being abolished and replaced with something better. The point is labour have been promising something and failing to deliver on that promise for over a century. Not the current and past content of the house of lords or merit of keeping/replacing/ tinkering with it.
Im struggling to see why labour should be taken anymore seriously on the issue now than at anytime in the past. Especially with an establishment man like starmer in charge of them.

I think it reasonable to assume that the HOL is safe from the ravages of socialism for the moment. The place is chock full of communists

For me its the 173 champagne socialists from the labour party. At least the tories dont stand on abolition of the lords manifestos every election then stack the place full of toadies who backtrack on abolitionist promises. |

If im no mistaken , dizzie lizzie promised a return to thatcherite politics and tax cuts for the rich , implemented it unlike labours empty promises on the lords , and was kicked out when the markets didnt like it.
You can present who you like zany , it doesnt detract from a century of labour lies and failed promises on the house of lords.

To be honest I wouldn't trust any of them as far as I could throw them, but the double standard hypocrisy in the Labour party is Jaw Dropping.
Tories make no secret of living the good life and enjoying it, while Labour are champagne socialists, (of the worst kind), they enjoy the good life as long as it's them enjoying the good life, if it's the Tories doing it then it's a outrage.

The double dealing hypocrisy of the red tories is incredible.
You know the tories and others are going to shit on you , but i find it incredible after years of pain under labour governments anyone believes their promises on bringing the poor to the elysian fields of content and prosperity , or abolishing the lords.
