They can take my trebuchet from my cold dead hands. I’d be careful if I were you Monte they might tell you to sling your hook.

LOL My partner does drag racing in a hemi cuda...She also uses a crossbow ... Sounds like quite a catch. Now if you told us she also does a faultless cheese soufflé then we'd all be completely jealous, you lucky dog you. LOL...

Now if you told us she also does a faultless cheese soufflé then we'd all be completely jealous, you lucky dog you. Well my wife and both my kids are fairly decent mean users of longbows, albeit strung to only half the pull of our marcher ancestors. And the forte of all three at the kitchen sink is lemon drizzle cake which explains my BMI I recall a conversation with a (yank) gun nut about the relative merits of a bow versus his slr. I pointed out the size of most english and welsh gardens was such the range of the rifle was unnecessary and the longbow had the advantage of silence ensuring my neighbours sleep was not interrupted unless my daughters aimed at pinning the burglar to our fence by the scrotum instead of through the chest…

Bows are quiet and practical for back garden shooting. Good fun.

Stop the sales of catapults should also be introduced...We have far to many budding psychopaths now we have opened the flood gates to the dross of the world....
Primary school children are filming themselves killing and torturing wild animals including swans, deer and squirrels then sharing the grisly videos on WhatsApp in 'sick' nation-wide 'trend'

Anyone can make a catapult, hard to ban completely.
But crimes committed with them should be reclassified so they're taken as seriously as firearms offences.

I will admit to having owned a catapult, which I bought to shoot deer who getting over the fence and dining on the contents of the garden. I can confirm that roses are their all-time favourite treat, and tomatoes a close second.
Funnily enough when I bought it from K-Mart they were kept in a locked cabinet like firearms, along with the pellets. And I had to show my driving license. I became quite good at hitting a deer's rear haunches from 40 paces and after a while they stopped bothering us.

What possible legitimate use could there be a crossbow in the 21st century? The damned things should be banned completely. I am sure The Sealed Knot and the many thousands of other Historical Reenactors would disagree with you. Also much safer for something like vermin (rat) control as the Quarrel does not ricochet in the way even an air pellet can, or even pass through to potentially harm someone / something beyond the target. I agree , From the Metro A man has been rushed to hospital after being shot in the neck by a crossbow in Shoreditch, London. A man in his 20s suffered a neck injury at Arnold Circus at around 7.30pm yesterday. It’s thought he was hit by a dart fired from a crossbow. He was taken to hospital where his condition was assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing. The attack comes just days after a woman in her 40s was also injured with what police believe to be a crossbow in Club Row, Shoreditch.

If they did ban them outright there would still be a great number out there, similar to the USA banning gun ownership...

Would have no real affect at all TBH. There's so many things that it would be untenable to put purchase restrictions on that could easily substitute for "catapult elastic", fan-belts and bicycle inner-tubes immediately come to mind, made my first catapult from an old inner-tube in about 1978/9. It was not until the Back-Widow range of catapults started appearing in 1986 that it was possible to buy one better than my inner-tube home-build. All The Best

Exactly, and with sites like TikTok (never used it myself) and Youtube (use it quite a bit) there's no real way of stopping someone learning to do just that. Give the 3D Printing technology another 5-10 years and the UK restriction on gun ownership will be all but pointless too. I am not saying that is a good thing by the way, just pointing out that technology increasingly decentralises the means of production for such things. All The Best
