It's becoming clearer and clearer that Labour are already in charge of the country, they've got more clout than the serving Tory government, never have I witnessed a opposition party being in charge of the country, politics and democracy is nonexistent. journalists like Andrew Neil has pointed out Rishi Sunak is a nice guy , but clearly isnt a politician , and that he has never seen a tory leader work so hard to lose an election.. Like I said , you do wonder who is behind the scenes pulling strings. There is a lining of silver on every cloud , and the one thing we can take for this is that labour are in for a rough ride if /when they take power. I think starmer could effectively finish labour for eternity.

The Clerk of The House of Commons "Tom Goldsmith" who is also the principal constitutional advisor has also made this very relevant point "I acknowledge that the speaker and his deputies have COMPLETE DISCRETION when deciding which amendments to select".

That looks to be labour party spin. Tom goldsmith has said this is a departure from long standing convention , and has written to Hoyle to voice his concern about `the new rules`. eth Rigby @bethrigby · 1h Huge relief for Labour after Speaker calls their amendment, but huge backlash against Sir Lindsay as clerk of house Tom Goldsmith says decision is a departure from long established convention

Here's the full advice from Lindsay Hoyle's top adviser - Tom Goldsmith says he's laying out his thoughts in line with the new process for registering his concern over a "substantial breach of the Standing Orders or a departure from long-estbalished conventions

Well whatever happens with this vote , and even if starmer slithers out of it and save sface , I think its going to damage him , his party , and looks as though Hoyle is either going to have to resign or be removed . He looks even less impartial than Bercow.
Westminster disgraces itself once again , and looks daily even more like the parliament of a banana republic..
Ive followed uk politics since the eighties , and I can't recall Westminsters esteem ever being so low , or those that warm the benches.

Didnt starmer offer her a job ,last march? Wasn't her son offered a labour candidacy ? I might be mistaken on the latter.

I have to say fair , im a Scottish indy supporter , but as a politics geek , ive always admired various politicians past in differing political parties however grudgingly. I dont think I could point a single one in this current parliament who could lace the boots of past politicians , and that includes all parties , including the Scottish contingent. As I said, I think we are close to the breakdown of the current political system as we know it. Hoyle and his behaviour is a symptom of that . Spineless benchwarmers without a brain , or trace of political guile in their heads.

The statement where the Clerk to The House acknowledges that The Speaker has full discretion over what amendments to choose is contained within the letter from him to The Speaker.
This conclusively establishes that no constitutional rules have been broken, seems like a case of Sour Grapes to me.

Democracy is dead: The Tories are weak and inept and the stench of corruption hangs over Labour. And they are the only choices we have.

Which is quite clearly the thrust of Goldsmiths missive.

You can spin it how you like , but the clerk clearly points out how it's a break from convention. If Hoyle can be blackmailed and manipulated like this by labour , whats to stop it happening again and again? As ever , labour make the uk parliament shine through as the cesspit it actually is by their behaviour.
