Absolutely no evidence for that claim at all.. isnt it laughable how this Labour Party done has to harken back to myths about enoch Powell when most of us on this forum remember Blair cosying up to Putin when he was in power. Sir Tony Blair courted Vladimir Putin despite officials’ doubts Former PM was keen to reach out to the Russian president and give him a seat at the top table, newly released archives show It goes back a lot further than that - when powell was active in politics the only people cosying up to the Soviet Union were in the Labour Party or the Unions..(usually both)

FINANCIAL TIMES In all these areas, Powell’s thinking was influential. But as Corthorn demonstrates, Powell’s causes were often far more marginal, like his support for unilateral nuclear disarmament, opposition to any “special relationship” with the US and even, at one point, entente with the Soviet Union. Entente (meaning) a friendly understanding or informal alliance between states or factions: "the emperor hoped to bring about an entente with Russia" Link www.ft.com/content/097325b2-def0-11e9-b8e0-026e07cbe5b4You are attempting to alter history, Enoch Powell maintained that the West missunderstood Russia, and that the Soviet Union never at any time intended to invade Europe, Mr Powell was also unfriendly, some would say hostile to the United States.

Every one one of your posts waters the first claim down a bit more . Now it’s the West being a bit more friendly with the Soviet Union . Welcome back to Earth.

He was clear there had been no change in the UK’s position on Salisbury, which was a reckless use of chemical weapons and a brazen attempt to murder innocent people on UK soil. He said that such an attack must not be repeated. The Prime Minister said that they both had a responsibility to address issues of international security including Libya, Syria, Iraq and Iran. The Prime Minister said there will be no normalisation of our bilateral relationship until Russia ends the destabilising activity that threatens the UK and our allies and undermines the safety of our citizens and our collective security. He even met putin after Salisbury incident instead of Cutting Diplomatic ties

Read this passage from a Sean Gabb essay on Enoch Powell >> "Enoch Powell was as hostile to NATO as he was to the European Union – perhaps more so. He never blamed the French or Germans for wholesale bribery of our rulers, or for the occasional murder of dissenting politicians. He went to the grave convinced that Airey Neave had been murdered, in 1979, by the CIA because his policy on Northern Ireland was inconvenient to an American Government that wanted the Irish Republic to join NATO" Link www.seangabb.co.uk/enoch-powell-the-man-and-his-politics-2014-by-sean-gabb/Not an unreasonable position given, even now, America's sympathy to Irish republicanism. Your view of Powell is particularly interesting, since I've always maintained that there is very little difference between the far left and the, allegedly, far right. Not that I think Powell was either but I can see how he could easily be claimed by both.

Powell was an incredible man on so many levels but he was one among many other incredible men at the time . I suspect that he would have been nothing more than a political footnote has he not made the’ rivers of blood’ speech He’s an insight into his mentality “ the spring of 1986 I was driving through the Loire valley, listening to an interview on Radio 4 with Enoch Powell, one of the most famous British politicians of the time. It was all predictable stuff until Powell was asked how he would like to be remembered. After giving one fairly anodyne response, Powell replied: ‘I should like to have been killed in the war.’ ww2history.com/blog/ww2-people/i-wish-i-had-died-in-the-war/

Ironically one of Powell's political friends was none other than Tony Benn, both were intellectuals, both with fringe views, but been intelligent enough that they could argue, disagree and have opposing views without resorting to bitterness, hatred or insults. So yes, there is an element of truth in what you state

So, yes.

Tony Benn ( aka The 2nd Viscount Stansgate, ) and Enoch Powell have one thing in common . They weren’t exactly team players .

You do realise you are describing the Labour Party policy of that time.. "Crucial to our policy is the pursuit of peace, development and disarmament by strengthening the process of détente. We shall seek to improve relations with the USSR and the countries of Eastern Europe, as well as with China.
We shall continue to work for the peaceful and just settlement of disputes and the strengthening of international cooperation. The Labour Government will, therefore, continue its policy of strengthening international organizations, particularly the United Nations, and the Commonwealth.
In 1974, we renounced any intention of moving towards the production of a new generation of nuclear weapons or a successor to the Polaris nuclear force; we reiterate our belief that this is the best course for Britain."
