I cant believe that no one has allready created a thread on this, obviously far too many apologists for this bloody government.
Recessions are not common, the last official recession we had was 2008 / 2009 and caused by the world banking crisis and "Credit Crunch".
But this one is caused by Rishi and his government, surely this tears to shreds a flagship promise, Rishi's pledge to "grow the economy"., just like all his other pledges.
Living standards have never fallen back so far since records began in 1955, and its not just the recession that we are now in, its the fact that growth has been painfully poor throughout the entire period the Conservatives have been in power since 2010. We lost our Triple A credit rating under the Conservatives, and we have teetered on the edge of recession no less than FIVE TIMES.

Well I dont actually disagree - between the policy's of the Treasury, the BoE and the OBR I'm surprised we have not entered recession sooner. But, to be fair, we are far from unusual in Europe - many EU countries also entered recession last year, apparently Brexit caused devastation across the continent..

What recession across Eu states And you do know that it was actions by the BOE that stopped us from going into recession earlier. With interest hikes to fight inflation. .even Maggie used higher interest rates to fight inflation . And that was before it was in the hands of the Bank of England.

What recession across Eu states EUSSR cuts growth and inflation forecasts for 2024.......
The EUSSR on Thursday cut both its growth and inflation forecasts for the eurozone in 2024, as it warned geopolitical tensions spelled rising uncertainty for the single-currency area's economy.
The forecasts by the EUSSR's executive arm demonstrate the impact of the European Central Bank's interest rate-hiking campaign last year: a welcome fall in inflation, predicted to drop to 2.7 percent, but also worryingly sluggish growth, expected to reach just 0.8 percent.

Yes, that was in the old days when the UK governments used 'boom and bust' methods of controlling the economy i.e. high or low interest rates, 15% interest rates by the Thatcher government is an example. Thankfully Gordon Brown ended that government induced 'boom and bust' nonsense by giving the BoE control over interest rates. It was the only 'boom and bust' that Brown ever vowed not to return to. It was the only 'boom and bust' that he ever claimed to have/had any control over.

Its all well and good claiming "yes but European countries are in recession"
Our standard of living is piss poor compared to Denmark, Finland, Sweden
Our pensioners are massively worse off than ther German counterparts
Public services are in good order in The Netherlands, Austria and Luxembourg, inlike here.
We are going backwards in every respect, whether it be quality of life, life expectancy, standard of living, cost of living, our public services are all worse than 15 years ago.
And now a recession
