If Labour actually do what you want, I would be very surprised if they survive one term. And after that you can look forward to a proper right wing government.

He'd be popular with a section of the Tory support. To say that he'd be universally popular with the Tory support would definitely be a mistake. There's a broad band of Tories who would want nothing to do with him, and that would be true of both MPs and voters. Please don't think that all Tory voters think like Squeezed or Rackham. We certainly need a realignment of right-wing politics in this country. The Tories are simply too full of Labour and LibDem supporters to even be a credible opposition - when you have Tory Ministers claiming that the recent acid attacks in London are nothing to do with failures in the asylum system you know the party is lost. If the 'real' Tories leave and join reform that might finally put some clear blue water between the right and the LibLabCon centrist blob. |

So, Liz Truss is to launch a group entitled "Popular Conservatives Group", and apparently Nigel Farage is invited to attend.
Seems to me that the Conservatives in fighting is going to reach a new level, its the so called "populists" versus the moderates. This is not only driving a wedge into the Conservative Party and splitting it, its also driving a wedge into Conservative supporters and voters.
It wont work
The more traditional Conservatives and moderates, with heavy concentrations in the Home Counties and the South would likely turn to the Lib Dems.
However, lurching the party towards the populist right would likely keep the voters of Grimsby, Redcar and Middlesbrough South happy, the so called Red Wall seats.
