When Labour came to power under Blair they inherited a strong economy and money in the Treasury, when Gormless Gordon took over as PM as Blair headed for the hills, Brown was warned about the World Wide Financial meltdown and did nothing, which meant taxpayers money was spent to stop UK based Banks going under.
Brown made our Tax System even more complicated he also sold off some of some of our Gold Reserves but made it known before he sold it off so the price of gold went down , when Labour lost power the Treasury Coffers were empty.
Hence the years of austerity Government spending was reduced to fill them again, fast forward to Covid my grandkids will be paying that debt off for years

Zany has chosen to remain PAYE all through his climb to wealth and never taken advantage of the tax breaks suggested by his accountants. Zany believes that the country that helped make him wealthy deserves repaying. |

I asked earlier, what part of the public sector are you talking about as the NHS continued to have pay rises, but I didn't get a reply. The only across the board public sector pay freeze I could find was the one post covid. |

But without people like me running the country your healthcare and benefits wouldn't get sorted. And while I agree that's a waste of money in your case, it's not so for many others.
