It has been pointed out to me that the USA result shouldn't really be that surprising.
After all, travelling to the Middle East and eliminating an Islamic regime is what they do best. The only unusual thing is that they didn't nick their oil while they were at it.

Get a grip steve. Uruguay arent a bad team , but when you are relying on 35 year olds to score goals , you can see the team is getting on abit in years.
Are you a football fan ? This is normal bread and butter stuff of group stages , boring games where they grind out results to qualify .
Cant all be England versus the latest minnow whipping boys every group game can it?
Portugal are a quality team , although without a doubt that penalty was extremely harsh.

While what i said regarding grinding group stage results are very true , i have to retrosprectively agree whole hearted with you.
This is without a doubt the worst world cup finals i have witnessed in my lifetime. Why?
I think we have a case of bribery and corruption meeting the politically woke correct , equals world cup Qatar 22.
The standard of football has been shocking , with no real outstanding team.
Of the few european teamns there , France have been the best so far , followed by good English and spanish teams , and workmanlike "aging" portuguese and croatian teams. Swiss and netherlands have been no too bad.
Brazil decent if not at the level of past brazil teams , argentina nothing special , like portugal struggling with an aging talisman , and feck knows how ecuador qualified.
Mexico , USA and one or two others are simply there to make up the numbers and being seen to be inclusive of all regions of the globe of course.
Add the worst german team in the history of world football into the mix , and sprinkle in Iran Qatar.........fucking Qatar , saudi arabia and tunisia etc , all of whom the faroe islands and san marino would give a proper kicking to in footballing skill , and we have the ingredients for a shocker.
Sad indictment of what was once a great footballing spectacle.
Im underwhelmed. You are in mourning. Im sure other descriptions of dissatisfaction will come into play as this borefest progresses.

That , and the england fans getting a kicking off the taffies have been the highlight of a poor world cup so far.
