First, tropical rainforests have been decimated. The amount of oxygen they put back into the atmosphere by sequestration of CO2 was massive. And it has been shockingly diminished.
British Antarctic survey has observed problems from increasing CO2 levels as far back as the 1980's.
Ocean acidification and coral bleaching is a massive problem. And with rising temperatures the atmosphere holds more moisture meaning more rain and more flooding risks.
Trees take moisture out of the atmosphere as well as CO2.
At the very least rainforest countries need to face the most severe sanctions unless they change course.
If they change course, the developed world can offer better trading arrangements than they currently enjoy, and subsidy for replanting the rainforests at greater speed than they destroyed the forests.
We also need to plant forests here, but high energy crops like sugar beet and sugar cane should also be used to absorb CO2, these can be used to synthesise petrol and diesel putting conventional cars into a closed cycle of emissions.

When I was in Junior school back in the 60's all the environmentalists banged on about was cutting down the rain forests .The Amazon I recall was one they picked on but the ancient forests of the North were just as important . 60 years later the same topic is probably the most important topic with regard air quality and pollution . Even those believing in MM climate change should be focusing their energy on it rather than stopping fossil fuels Plant a tree ,save the planet .

I agree rain forests are an essential part of the plan. So does everyone else. "Amazon old-growth forest loss fell to 9,117 square kilometers from Jan. 1 to Nov. 8, down 55.8% from the same period in 2022," www.reuters.com/business/environment/amazon-rainforest-destruction-slows-sharply-year-date-report-says-2023-11-28/#:~:text=Amazon%20old%2Dgrowth%20forest%20loss,in%202022%2C%20according%20to%20MAAP.

Falling is not stopping, it is still failing to do the right thing.

Falling is not stopping, it is still failing to do the right thing. Yes. We both look forward to the day that trees across the globe start to increase in numbers. Ooh wait... The study, published in the journal Nature this month, shows trees now cover 7 per cent more of the earth's surface – roughly 2.24 million square kilometres – than they did in 1982. “This overall net gain is the result of a net loss in the tropics being outweighed by a net gain in the extratropics,” the report states. Report here. www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/tree-cover-increase-world-deforestation-farming-rainforests-forests-a8486096.htmlIts not all good news. Amazonian rainforest still shrunk which means loss of habitat. But Asian and European forests grew faster which does improve Co2 capture.

I read CO2 makes up 0.04% of the earths atmosphere , and mankind are allegedly responsible for 3 % of that 0.04%. Any political party trying to install punitive taxes in the name of climate on the hard pressed working man will not be receiving my vote in future.

Europe’s chance to end its destructive forestry model.
'Maintain Asian forest diversity to avoid climate change impact,' suggests new study..

"This summer sees voters across the continent vote in elections to the European parliament. Established parties need to beware: what begins as a protest vote can have unexpected but longlasting political consequences," says Joanna Williams, "Green policies come at a cost and discontent at paying the price is not confined to Germany. Striving for net zero might mean moral satisfaction for some but it means a colder, harder, more impoverished life for the rest." www.thetimes.co.uk/article/20d7dbdd-98a0-4ecd-b486-204b843e33d1?shareToken=dc87362ec038051a2493a03a3469f6be

It's true about the removal of freedoms and all attempts to regulate everything. It must be exhausting for them trying to control everything, especially with the usual double-standards and hypocrisy they depend upon on this here Mind Zone.

hang on zany , you aren't a mod , and we are all entitled to our opinions including piss taking. Climate change is real , it has happened all throughout the history of our planet , but the argument is it natural , or is mankind causing it with his 3% contribution to the 0.04% co2 in the earths atmosphere. If your answer to dealing with this alleged crises is punitive green taxes , then im out. When people realise the personal cost of this punitive green agenda , then woe betide any politician trying to stand on a green ticket at forthcoming elections.

I was just pointing out the thread title. Feel free to trash another one.
