It depends upon what he means by "detained". He was using the correct terminology, they should be 'securely detained', not free to wander round the streets from their 4 star hotels FFS. |

You can't imprison people whilst you determine their asylum claim. As you well know as it has been pointed out before. You can detain someone due for repatriation. |

Under the terrorism laws you can do just that, detain any one that could be a potential terrorist, if they are entering the UK 'illegally' with no identification they should be treated as terror suspects as apposed to asylum seekers, this government and the law have these powers at their disposal but are choosing not to use them. |

I just want it to be clear what you are implying.
So far this year 52,530 illegals have entered the UK.
Most 'young single males'.
Now are you honestly going to keep a straight face while you try to convince yourself as well as this forum, that out of 52,530 young single males NONE of them pose a terrorist threat to the UK, none of them are criminals.

I've never expressed that there could be no terrorists amongst them. However it's quite clear that 50,000 are not terrorists, so there would be no reason to detain under terrorism act. And to put it in scale, our current prison population is around 100,000 (England and Wales), so you're looking for an increase in prison capacity of 50%. The cost of keeping someone in prison is around £50,000 per year, so this would cost £2,500,000,000 per year. Plus your additional infrastructure.

If they come here with NO ID, then that's exactly how we treat them, 'potential terrorists', we have the laws to deal with it, but aren't using them.
If they want to arrive illegally, and if they want to arrive with NO ID, then expect to be treated as potential security threats.
However if they want to enter the UK by the correct and legal process they can do so, any one can apply for a UK visa, why should those illegally jumping the queue be treated 'specially'.
