Are Aliens causing you anxiety?

Methinks in your first sentence you are mistaking popularity with accuracy.

Mein Kampf was one of the most popular books of the 20th century, yet few would credibly try and argue that this made it right.

I am not fan of the BBC either by the way and have said so many times. It is a staunch defender of both the establishment and the economic status quo for one thing. 

The Mail is losing readership more slowly than other papers because its mostly elderly readers are just the age group that still buys papers. Though in future years as more of them die out, its readership will increasingly shrink too. In my retail job I keep selling copies but very rarely to anyone under 50. Most readers judging by my purchasers seem to be pensioners.

Fact is fewer people are buying newspapers now and more rely on the internet, which is a mixed blessing. Newspapers have always been chronically biased but at least we knew who owned them and whose interests they were serving. The internet can be just as biased but who is feeding us information is far more opaque. Could be our own deep state. Could be enemy states. Could be countless conspiracy theorists. Could be political or religious extremists. All of them posing potentially as just Joe Public. It is full of fake news and blatant lies and much harder to hold to account for that than newspaper proprietors. And the internet tends to feed all of us with more reinforcement of what we already believe, whether that be truth or lies. And it tends to feed us with very little that challenges what we already think, whether that be truth or lies either.

Increasing numbers of people are in large part because of this being sucked into fake reality bubbles, often based around some form of conspiracy theory. We have already seen what that can lead to in the USA, and is an increasing threat to democracy everywhere.

Intelligent peoples everywhere once broadly agreed on what the facts were and what the problems that needed addressing were, but disagreed on the root causes and the desired solutions. But increasingly today many people are starting to believe in different facts, many of which are anything but facts, whilst being shielded from any evidence that might wake them up to reality. And any such unwelcome facts they encounter are explained away as lies on behalf of the conspiracy they believe in. This is a far bigger problem than the Sun or Mail lying to people, since these do not respond to algorithms and tend mostly to be read by people who already agree with them anyway. And these publications could never get away with the level of dishonesty all over the internet. 

I am not going to name names, but one or two people on this forum seem at times to be being swayed by some conspiracy theory or other. But none of us, no matter how intelligent we may think ourselves, are entirely immune from this. Including me. But whatever we ourselves tend to believe in we see as facts and not a conspiracy theory at all. It is inherently far easier to recognise conspiracist theory thinking in others than it is in ourselves. But the internet works the same way for me as it does for everyone else. I get bombarded with news and views which I am likely to agree with and much less that may challenge me. Human nature does the rest. Because it is human nature that we find it far easier to believe something that we agree with, and are far more likely to dismiss out of hand something we don't. I myself for example almost never read any link to the Daily Mail. Others here would likewise not bother reading any link to the Guardian very often, I suspect. And clearly some massively distrust the BBC. Yet some who do seem to have no issues at all with the bias of GBNews.

Fact is almost every source of information is biased, some less subtle about it than others. And we all tend to prefer getting our information from sources whose bias is in our own preferred direction. The internet has massively reinforced this, often filling our heads with false realities.

When it comes to aliens, I think there is more than enough evidence to at least suggest the possibility that they are real, and there are too many believable accounts from sometimes highly credible sources of governments seeking to keep such evidence quiet. We can theorise on why that might be but if we convince ourselves too readily that any such theory is definitely correct, then we are potentially creating a false reality based on a conspiracy ourselves.

Of course, because the issue of UFOs fascinate me, though I mostly avoid the internet as a source of information in an attempt to insulate myself from fake information, I do watch a lot  of documentaries on TV about them, particularly on Blaze. These programs put out there lots of information and seemingly credible eyewitness accounts, but very little from sceptics. Consequently, I am not really getting the case against them anywhere remotely near as strongly as the case for. Consequently, I find my belief in UFOs increasing.

What I would really like to see is a panel investigating the evidence for the strongest cases, consisting of sceptics with knowledge of these cases as well as believers. But there is very little on TV featuring sceptics. If their evidence was likely to be laughed out of court, believers would have nothing to lose and everything to gain by including them. I am aware that I am mostly seeing the case in favour of aliens in UFOs, and very little of the case against.

I think that must surely be a mathematical certainty. But intelligent life capable of advanced technology will be a lot rarer than less advanced life. And once an intelligent species is capable of the technology that could wipe themselves out, surviving for long enough to overcome any aggressive tendencies might be far rarer still.

And civilisations at our level are likely to have evolved here and there, but would be no more capable of finding us and coming here than we are of finding them and going there. Any intelligent civilisation would need to be many centuries more advanced  than we are to come here, which would have involved surviving many centuries with the ability to destroy themselves.

So the question is not really how common is life, but how common is intelligent life.

And how common is it for such intelligent life to have evolved civilisations with advanced technology.

And how many such civilisations manage avoid destroying themselves. Most might well end up doing so. We ourselves might in due course.

So there might well be very few species out there intelligent and advanced enough to come here. But that would make us and others like us fairly rare in the galaxy, and would in consequence make us the object of much interest to more advanced aliens who might have been at a similar stage of development to us possibly as recently as a few centuries, or maybe millennia, ago.

Good, now I can get back to something actually interesting in my political retirement, could you show us the mathematical probability? either way.

I agree with much of what you say above, but differ in opinion on a small number of points.

1) Comparing D.Mail writers to the writer of Mein Kampf who killed millions of innocent people in death camps suggests maybe I need to adjust my thinking on who is at the helm of the D.Mail and reassess the type of genocide Lord Dacre’s writers might be engineering by steering the UK into one war after another since 9/11 ?!🤔😁
But the DM wasn’t alone in promoting these conflicts … so I’m puzzled why it gets so much criticism?

2)Although I am guilty more than most here, starting topics that will happily reside in Fringe Meetings, I have limited time to engage here so have to choose my ‘conspiracy battles’ carefully. But I differ from you in the fact that I don’t shut out certain sources …. because you can often find the biggest pearls of v.interesting information WELL-HIDDEN amongst the biggest piles of sh*t.
It’s like car-booting … how many shock valuations do you need to see on Antiques Roadshow before you will be convinced you need to get down and dirty to find those nuggets of key information ….enough to convince rational people Conspiracy Theory is now => FACT?

IMO people are too trusting of the BBC and Establishment propaganda sources …. their ‘FACTS’ are increasingly undermined by Internet researchers, casting doubt on the integrity of the MSM and those who today own and compromise the dubious truths within it - arguably super rich globalists/anarchists(?) that go to great lengths and expense to manipulate our lives, Planet and premature deaths.🤔

4) Regarding ALIEN visitors and their incredibly technology that have used this planet … Religious/Deep State factions and their MSM tell us it hasn’t happened yet! Yet successive Presidents and Prime Ministers have mostly been denied access to ‘the pearls of inside information’ - Black Ops UFO reverse engineered craft, crashed disks and meetings with these visitors that witnesses have seen.

5) If aliens haven’t navigated here, or engineered our existence, dropped incredibly advanced technology in our laps … then no secrecy would be necessary … and Black Ops Projects would just be Cold War rivalries … and v.important UFO military/civilian whistle-blowers wouldn’t be briefing Congress and anyone interested at the Press Club in Washington, USA.
P.S. Why would these respected people set themselves up to be ridiculed? … It’s not in their make-up to lie about this stuff.

6) Atheist Scientists who cannot fathom how ‘space gods/aliens’ got here.🤔 … when so many historic religious/ufo/alien god pointers are lying around … can surely now fathom how much they’ve been kept in the dark and fed bullshit by the Religious ‘underground’.🙄

…. It proves one thing … scientists are motivated by money, status and job security … like everyone else!

Who pays the piper, calls the tune … so if you carefully follow the funding … you find Religious Factions mostly control Establishment Scientific Institutions and grants - and even 95% of the most respected scientific MSM … and therefore scientific theory today.

This FACT has slightly corrupted Science’s integrity, stifled research in selected areas (SETI in our own backyard - Earth/Moon regions) …and created a void of ignorance in the field of Alien/Ufology study.

… It’s the reason the biggest secret in our Consciousness … has remained hidden … and will continue thus … until Religious/Deep State CONTROL IS REMOVED … and FREE THINKING and FREE DEBATE is restored to a discipline I’ve noticed is riddled by Establishment CENSORSHIP.

These people are under oath … but still under strict control over what they can disclose.

Maybe one day some on here will wake up and discover what ‘cover-up’ means … and who gets access to materials, craft, bodies and proofs that will satisfy people who haven’t a clue what secret Deep State groups can engineer today … and with greater intensity since WW2.
