Do you think that British born citizens should have the right to bring their foreign born spouses home when they have very marketable skills, abundant assets and need no government assistance? They have the right. As long as they were born here and not just have a British passport of convenience. She was born in the UK to British parents who were born in the UK and has British ancestry all the way back hundreds of years.

Both she and her husband are Caucasian. Both have British ancestry. The problem was that in my relative's case, her parents left the country when she was little. Her husband was born overseas.

The World shouldn't have a right to move into the UK whenever it sees fit. People from the UK can't choose to live in other countries at a whim, expect to be put up free of charge in six star hotels and see a local dentist, whilst all the time telling all and sundry the hosts are dreadful far right racists. The duty of our elected government is to put the welfare and future prosperity of our citizens first, Blair, Cameron, May, Johnson and the new bloke have failed on every count. In unskilled labour jobs we have a serious shortage of labour which has, and still is costing companies money, and which is affecting UK growth. In skilled labour jobs there is also a severe shortage of people in particular areas, and as with unskilled work, it does affect our economy. These people ( workers ) are not choosing to come here as free-loaders or for a laugh, they come here because its a free market - they have skills - we need their skills. The duty of any British government is to look after not only our citizens, but to ensure prosperity for our economy, including our public services and NHS - and that does mean employing the best people.

Mass immigration had improved neither productivity or per-capita growth. There is an old saying - 'when in a hole..'

She didn't have a problem her partner did. I would argue that it was also her problem. It probably is, but it has nothing to do with her skin colour.

Free movement of workers improved UK GDP, helped to improve not only our economy, but also the service sector and public services, all of which are now still suffering, and struggling as a result of the end of Free Movement.
The care sector, food production, agriculture, lesiure and hospitality industry are all struggling, this is putting downward presures on growth, raising costs, adding to inflation, affecting the cost of living and making the UK less competetive.
BEFORE anyone comes up with the ridiculous notion that British people could do these jobs if the pay went up, there is not enough British people, but secondly, and this point has been made many times ... there are certain jobs that British people wont do / cant do.
The UK economy expanded BECAUSE OF free movement, and now, much of that expansion is contracting, and people were told that this would happen, even Camerons government accepted that this would happen.
Entire new industries grew from nowhere under Free Movement, such as the British salad industry, others flourished and expanded, shrinking imports, and boosting British grown fruit and vegetables.
In the South of England, Britains biggest vegetable producer now employs hundreds of Azerbaijani's, but many such producers have diversified, shrank, some have gone.

You are confusing total GDP with per-capita GDP - increasing total GDP does nothing for the average citizen of the UK.

Clicking on the link in the OP brings you to the story in the Guardian featuring several touching reports of relationships now said to be at risk.
Two in particular caught the eye. First the 47 year-old British woman with terminal cancer who met her 25 year-old Turkish husband seven years ago. Apparently she wore a colostomy bag on their first date on holiday in Turkey so this is surely a case where true love conquers all. She needs hubby, who has never been to the UK, to get a visa so they can 'make memories together'.
The other is a 68 year-old Devon man who is using his private pension to sponsor his bride from Thailand, but is now concerned that the new visa rules will complicate his financial life.
Just two of the many hundreds of such needy stories the Guardian has become aware of.

For shortages in unskilled labour the solution is simple (except to lefties) We have many hundreds of thousands (probably millions) of benefit spongers enjoying life all paid , including rent (with regular % increases) by the working taxpayer from the private sector who sit on their fat unproductive ars*s doing eff all all day Allocate them to the unskilled jobs , no ifs, buts, I don't travel on buses, I've got blisters or I'm ''anxious's'' (or whatever trendy ailment lefties have invented this month- those ''properly'' disabled ie missing limbs , or specialist medically diagnosed physical disability may be exempt) Cancel all their benefits - they do the work allocated or starve
