I understand that this happened in an art class for 12 and 13 year old students. Considering that history teacher Samuel Paty was stabbed and beheaded when he showed caricatures of the prophet Mohammad to his class three years ago, the teacher involved in this incident could and should have anticipated the possibility that showing this painting might anger the Muslim students and their parents. The proper way to handle it in my opinion would have been to give all parents advance notice that this painting was going to be shown in art class, in anticipation that some parents may choose to let their children be excused from that portion of the class. Must admit it wouldn't have occurred to me that Muslims could be that lunatic that they were unable to cope with looking at art. Is there anything else they need to be protected from? Who is suggesting they need protection from art? They have free choice to like art or dismiss it. Maybe it's a matter of wanting to exercise parental control. A lot of parents, even non-Muslims, would prefer not to let the school decide whether it is age appropriate to show their twelve year olds this sort of art.

A total misjudgement or, as I said, an intentional prevarication…. Why would the teacher stage such an event in order to invite the sort of trouble for which another teacher was murdered three years ago only twelve miles away? "Following the class, false posts circulated on social media accusing the teacher of making racist comments, fuelling the anger further... The name of the female teacher and false claims that she had made racist remarks to Muslim students were subsequently circulated on social media, reports said, raising fears that she could be targeted. According to Le Figaro, the students allegedly accused their teacher of racism - claiming that she showed the painting as provocation and as a means to target her Muslim students by showing them naked women. 'Our colleagues feel threatened and in danger.'" www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12852075/outrage-Muslim-parents-Renaissance-painting-nude-women-French-class-crisis-teachers.html

Muslims are not the only abrahamic religion followers needing to be protected from being led astray — a dramatic form of censorship in Christendom, by the Roman Catholic Index of banned reading, was not even limited to theology — it banned works ranging from love stories to philosophical treatises to political theory. All the writings of certain authors — including David Hume, Thomas Hobbes, Émile Zola, and Jean-Paul Sartre — were prohibited, while only specific books by other authors were proscribed, such as John Milton’s Paradise Lost and Blaise Pascal’s Pensées. One or more works by nearly every modern Western philosopher were censored in the Index, even those who professed a belief in God, such as Erasmus, René Descartes, Immanuel Kant, George Berkeley, and Nicolas Malebranche. Other famous writers with banned books included Voltaire, Edward Gibbon, Montesquieu, Giordano Bruno, Francis Bacon, Laurence Sterne, Daniel Defoe, Nicolaus Copernicus, and Níkos Kazantzákis. That the works of some atheist thinkers, notably Friedrich Nietzsche andArthur Schopenhauer, were not listed was because of the supplemental Tridentine ban on heretical works…

Especially as even the Catholic Church scrapped it over 50 years ago.

A policewoman, (Julie) who was a rather naïve probationer and a devout Christian went to a garden centre in Northamptonshire which had a display of copy "Davids" and reported them for some sort of indecency offence. It made the papers at the time. Must have been about 1987. Obviously never got near a court.

I'm not the one who is complaining about the art class, (I took my teenage daughter to Italy for the express purpose of viewing art), but some parents, depending on the maturity of their children, may object to their being shown full frontal nude images at an early age.
