A furious row has erupted in France and left a teacher in fear for her life after she showed a 17th century Renaissance painting depicting nude women to pupils in art class, prompting complaints from Muslim parents. Staff members at Jacques Cartier in Issou, west of Paris, refused to work on Monday in solidarity with the teacher who showed the masterpiece - 'Diana and Actaeon' by the Italian painter Giuseppe Cesari in class on Thursday. Teachers are now worried they could be attacked - linkYet another example of Muslims refusing to integrate, I mean just how angry ignorant and fundamentalist do you have to be, to be 'offended' by renaissance art? Shouldn't we see how many people here complain when James Bond or Dr Who are played by Black actors before we attempt to vilify others' reactions to the arts because of their religious beliefs?
Are we sure the event wasn't staged intending to stir up trouble...?
I understand that this happened in an art class for 12 and 13 year old students. Considering that history teacher Samuel Paty was stabbed and beheaded when he showed caricatures of the prophet Mohammad to his class three years ago, the teacher involved in this incident could and should have anticipated the possibility that showing this painting might anger the Muslim students and their parents. The proper way to handle it in my opinion would have been to give all parents advance notice that this painting was going to be shown in art class, in anticipation that some parents may choose to let their children be excused from that portion of the class. |

Must admit it wouldn't have occurred to me that Muslims could be that lunatic that they were unable to cope with looking at art. Is there anything else they need to be protected from? |

Completely off topic. The UK has had some difficulties with immigration too. This thread is about some press coverage of a few Muslims kicking off...just like the British ones who spent weeks outside a primary school making their presence known. These picked the wrong country. Fine art has a safe home in France. |

Doctor Who is fictional. Islamist bigotry is real. Dr Who is fictional — as are, in my view, the deities dreamt up by those wanting to claim association with the most powerful. Also, Christian, Islamic, and Jewish bigotries are real, but they’re not special. Any belief or movement that requires faith as a cornerstone is probably susceptible to bigotry. Look at pro and anti preachers in Brexit, immigration, climate change, etc… |
