MANY TV programmes, including SitComs would not be appropriate, or allowed today, and it has nothing to do with the BBC, it is because of vastly changed attitudes and society. The 1960s / 1970s versions of "Till Death Do Us Part" are not deemed appropriate today, same as for example "Love Thy Neighbour" on ITV. Alf Garnett was not a Jew ( the actor was ), Alf was fiercely Church of England He was . This was pointed out in one episode. He denied it . Alf Garnett was a delusional bigot . That was the whole point . As for not appropriate . Who are you to tell us what is not appropriate? Regarding Love thy neighbour . The narrative was about another delusional white man with a plain wife competing with a black man who was clearly superior and had a beautiful wife . You really have no idea , have you? I, as in me, am not attempting to tell either you or anyone what you can, or should watch on TV, if you read and absorb what I wrote, I clearly stated that it is society that deems such comedy as inappropriate, I have not given my opinion. But if you actually want my opinion, do I believe that 1960s comedy which refers to black people as "coons" and the "N" word be appropriate today - NO I DO NOT.

His son in law said that his close relative ( possibly grandfather but I don’t remember exactly) was a Jew called Solly Diamond . Alf was outraged and shouted ‘ I’m not a Yid!” several times . Another hint was Garnett looked and spoke like an archetypal Jewish cockney. He acted as Jewish as Alfie Bass . Mitchell was Jewish , a fine actor and a socialist iirc . He got the joke though . Just about everything Alf Garnett believed about himself was delusional.

I mean what is it that you cant understand about that ?

Till death us do part never condoned calling black peoples coons . The whole point if it was to make fun of people that do . It was a polemic against the hypocrisy of racism and xenophobia. Jeez ……lefties are dim . Next you will be telling me that Ben ny Hill was misogynistic .

Fiddler, if you're going to hero worship Lineker at least learn to spell his name.
Less chance of looking a total bell-end that way.

As a celebrity, the worst thing you can do for your career is to express a divisive political opinion.
The reason for this is quite simple.
As a celebrity, your job isn't to be a politician, it's to entertain.
The minute you express some political view on something divisive, you'll immediately alienate around ~50% of the population.

Gary Lineker has not made any political comment
What he did was to sign a letter, along with other prominent people and celebrities, of which it has been sad that "this is NOT a breech of guidelines".
What happened next was that several Tory MPs criticised Lineker for signing the letter, these Tory MPs then goaded Lineker on social media ( Twitter / X ).
Gary Linekar has, and did have every right to defend himself against these uncalled for and unwarrented comments.
The Tory appointed chairman elect of the BBC has now WRONGLY stated that in his view, Linekar has breeched the guidelines, well of course he would do wouldn't he .... he's a Tory stooge.
The bottom line here is that Linekar has not made any political comment, and as before, if the Tories wish to pursue this, they will once again end up with egg on their faces.
Tory Dim Wits

Indeed. I often wonder why so many seem to think it's trendy to play to the left, meanwhile those to the right or even centre are switching channels.
