Not allowed by the Council. Yes I know the rules would need to change. Could we do it? Probably not - why would you allow free access to other people if you are paying for the road. Perhaps we could bring back Toll Booths and charge?.

Not allowed by the Council. Yes I know the rules would need to change. Could we do it? I would have thought the insurability of someone whose car was damaged, or worse who was injured, by a poor temporary repair was a major block. Repairing a road in an adequate fashion, even if it is just a patch is a skilled job with specific materials and procedures.

A) Yes. I used communal dumpsters when I had a flat on L'Ile St Denis, and it involved no more effort than my current bin regime. B) On a personal level, stop subsidising those arts largely enjoyed by audiences who can well afford an extra few quid. It seems crazy to me that some of the highest arts subsidies go to companies like the ENO and Royal Ballet. B(b) Stop giving Ken Loach (and other filmmakers whose movies are almost guaranteed to lose money) taxpayer funds to make their films. Cinema is known as a "popular artform" - surely if it AIN'T "popular" enough to draw an audience, it shouldn't be down to the rest of us to keep it going. Yes Ballet and Opera. I wonder why they get the money. Hmm. Film subsidies might be solving themselves as cinema chains collapse with the growth of home cinema. Bolshoi Ballet girls worked part time as KGB honey traps.

Perhaps we could bring back Toll Booths and charge?. Because its better to have roads without holes in. Not everything has to be about money. Imagine the council provided the street with bags of tarmac. On a given Sunday the residents close the street and volunteers go out and fill the pot holes. They get instruction from a council internet site and free use of equipment. Argument against: What happens if the job is not done properly and the tarmac breaks up? Well that's no worse than the terrible pot holes there in the first place.

The trouble is binding the new stuff with the old stuff. You need the full kit which includes heavy machinery.

When our potholes are filled in they close the road for a day . Filling in potholes should be done by people who know what they are doing , not Kevin , his missus and the kids . They might consider spending that time fruit picking instead .

The only bonding the council use is on the surface.

A local volunteer group would. Anyway, anymore things we could do ourselves or are we completely dependent on the government for everything up to wiping our bums. In which case carry on paying the high taxes.

When I see them do it they have a machine that breaks up the surface, then once the hot tar is on they have a kind of flame thrower and steamroller thing.

Is this going to save any money? - the Council still pays for the Tarmac, the equipment, the guy to deliver/collect the equipment, the guy to train you how to use the equipment and the liability insurance whilst you are using this equipment - and also any insurance claims from shoddy workmanship.. Can't see any savings amounting to much..

Everywhere except fantasy land . I expect Kevin's Mrs and the kids would do a better job. You would give up before you even started.
