Quite possibly, but I think Andrew is one of the more reasonable lefties, and lets face it reasonable lefties are as rare as hens teeth.

People do go to sleep at night Red so can’t always answer your late night demands. Were I not in need of “comfort” I wouldn’t be answering now. So Labour announced a cut in VAT in 2008 intended to be temporary just as income tax when it was reintroduced in the 1840s was intended to be temporary. The first thing Cameron did on gaining power was to increase VAT. Given the need for tax revenues, it is for individuals to judge whether they think we need a sales tax like VAT and if so at what rate.
More interesting perhaps is whether tax cuts likely to be announced tomorrow and a further round likely in March despite the dreadful state of the UK deficit will be focused on ordinary people (eg income tax threshold changes) or whether it will be more Trussian and decide that in a cost of living crisis what is really needed is to make the rich get even richer perhaps by cutting the dead millionaires tax.

VAT is a pretty good tax as on the whole it's pretty discretionary, easy to administer and encourages saving.

Was that a temporary reduction?.. Your silence speaks volumes. Morning! Sorry, had gone to watch the American Football. Yes,it was designed to stimulate the economy after the financial crash.

VAT to return to 17.5%, but no higher, says chancellor
Well, yes it started in Dec 2008, but covered the calendar year 2009. Don't read the Guardian, it makes you woke.

No, that's just how you label people when you don't have an argument. State someone who thinks those crossing the channel in small boats are asylum seekers. Behave yourself. Anyone who claims asylum is an Asylum Seeker by definition. Whether they cross the channel or not is irrelevant, although pretty difficult to get to the UK without. What that has to do with Tory voters going to Reform or Labour I'm unsure of?

I don't think the country is naturally right wing its just where many are being pushed due to the incompetence of government and that the downright shitshow of previous labour governments leaves us fearing much of the same There has never been a greater "shit show" than the one imposed by the right-wing 'stocking footed' fascist Thatcher. I'll top trumps you with Lord North

It is very relevant. Legal asylum seekers WOULD NOT dump their id's into the channel.

You're a lefty who watches American football! Andrew, have you any redeeming features? I fear that may be a rhetorical question.
