Just when you thought this government couldn't get any worse in its rolling out the red carpet to welcome illegal immigrants to the UK we have this gem. Their latest plan is to put asylum seekers into a housing development in Chertsey where 1 bed apartments sell for £300,000 - just let that sink in. An illegal migrant pays £3000 to be smuggled into the UK and now the Government proposes to give him a brand new £300,000 flat to live in when he gets here. If any Tory candidate turns up on my doorstep he will be lucky to get away with a piece of my mind instead of a slap.

Perhaps it's a cunning plan to win over the far-left.

Are they planning to give asylum seekers a flat, or give them the use of a flat while waiting to be processed?

Not content with miscalling and misrepresenting Palestinians, you are now at it with Asylum seekers. The people coming across in boats are only deemed 'illegal' when the system decrees they are, resulting in deportation. Go to this linked article for some statistical facts www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/information/refugee-asylum-facts/top-10-facts-about-refugees-and-people-seeking-asylum/#:~:text=A%20total%20of%2020%2C888%20people,14%2C092%20people%20were%20granted%20protection. Of those coming across the channel, at least 6 in 10 are granted leave to stay rising to about 90% from five countries - Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Eritrea and Sudan www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/latest/news/majority-of-people-on-small-boats-crossing-channel-last-year-are-refugees-new-analysis-shows/#:~:text=At%20least%20six%20out%20of,from%20the%20Refugee%20Council%20shows. But, hey, why let the truth get in the way.

Those figures are for 2022.
Expect the number of grants for 2023 to be very much higher as Rishi's pledge to reduce the backlog becomes a reality.

Nope - claiming asylum does not make you a legal migrant - all it does, is offer protection from sanctions as a result of your illegal entry.

Ah yes, The Conservatives have promised to remove all asylum seekers waiting to be processed out of hotels, now we know where they are going.😂

Claiming asylum does not make you a legal immigrant. - hope that is clear.

Meanwhile because of it, the government and dodgy charities certainly haven't made the country a better place whatever nonsense they come out with.

You are quite correct claiming asylum does not make you a legal immigrant, legal immigrant status can only be granted when you have been processed, until then you are an asylum seeker, an immigrant is someone that has successfully claimed leave to stay in the country, hope that is clear. "No - you have illegal immigrants who then claim asylum". Illegal immigrants are those that enter the country and do not claim asylum but disappear into the country and find work in the black economy, you are confused by the rhetoric of some that say "people fleeing war, persecution and famine in small boats across the channel are illegal immigrants". If they are found to be economic migrants we, by international law, can return them to their country of residence. There is only one way we can do it, process them.

I agree but I believe that the Tories are quite happy with the situation because it detracts a lot of people from what they are really doing, ripping us off.

If you enter the country illegally and subsequently claim asylum your illegal entry still stands - the only thing that changes is the ability of the Government to sanction you for that illegal entry. Read the Refugee Convention.

Read the Refugee Convention. I have read the Refugee Convention and it says asylum seekers should not be punished for their method of entry into a country. An asylum seeker, those you and people like you call illegal immigrants, are entitled by international law to cross any 'safe' country and claim asylum in any country they so wish, that country is obliged to process them and decide if their claim is valid, we do not do that hence the backlog and billions wasted in hotels. We can of course break the Refuge Convention and not accept any asylum seekers but the Tories wont do that and instead they call them 'illegal' immigrants to wind idiots up, no changes in our law will change the facts. Think about it, why haven't we just sent them all to Rwanda, pushed the boats back to France or sent them of to islands on the other side of the planet as the Tories keep mentioning?

I've had the misfortune of staying in a Britannia shithole.. Britannia named worst UK hotel chain for tenth year in a row This article is more than 11 months old Which? survey places the group firmly at the bottom, with ‘dire, drab and smelly’ rooms, while Premier Inn retains top spot in spite of price rises www.mirror.co.uk/travel/news/britannia-takes-top-spot-uks-28435695So they aren't good enough for illegal migrants, who need at least 4 star accommodation, we are a LAUGHINGSTOCK
