yet another vid from a consumer about the difficulties of living with EV's - and before anyone starts bitching that he is biased against EV's his own private car is an EV..

But back to cars.. yet another vid from a consumer about the difficulties of living with EV's - and before anyone starts bitching that he is biased against EV's his own private car is an EV.. Good vid, and after watching it I wonder why anyone would even entertain the thought of hiring an EV. Something the video pointed out that I was unaware of, to preserve battery life always keep your EV battery charged between 50% and 80%. I mean, how convenient is that? What a nightmare. Bollox to EV's, I'll stick with diesel. 500 miles range, 600 on Mrs R's Fiesta, no range anxiety and five minutes to refuel. As far as I can see, electric = stress.

The issue that hit me from the vid was he was coming from the US to the UK - what happens if you do it the other way round?.
When you hire a petrol car in the US a lot of gas stations will not allow you to pay at the pump if using a UK credit card as they demand a Zip code - this is no great problem as you can go in and pay in the shop. If EV chargers start requiring the same information how do you then pay as a lot of chargers are not connected to retail shops.
If you download the app will you be able to open an account without a US address or US credit card?..
I'd be very wary of renting an EV anywhere at the moment - the infrastructure makes it too stressful.

In all honesty he wasn't complaining about electric cars, but the way Hertz go about the business of renting them out, another youtube waste of time for google revenue and $5 subscribers.

Because charging an EV is a major inconvenience and so who the lucky person (or organisation) is, becomes a significant economic issue.
If you factor in the cost of charging it sounds like they are charging a good portion of day's rental to fill up the battery the car for you. How much would you charge to charge an ev?

By growth I presume you an increase in GDP? GDP per capita.. In order for the economy to grow (get bigger) on the basis of gdp/capita either or both of two things must happen. One, people joining the country (immigrants) need to create wealth in excess of the current gdp per capita or two; the number of people in the country must be reduced.
I'm not seeing either currently happening or any prospect of it.

Total GDP is as meaningless to your standard of living as total IQ
However, it does provide the state with more subjects to rule over.

Technology, AI and robots using AI will bring wealth in the future, not importing hordes of immigrants.
From printing to Amazon warehouses , they are all becoming automated. Society is changing .

It occurs to me that, the more people there are, the more the balance of power is tilted in favour of the state and away from an individual.

What is Hertz doing wrong? - they require you to bring back an iCE car with a full tank why not an EV? Because the two are different. Not to the car rental model they are not. If you allow EV's to be returned empty then you have to get an employee to take them to the recharge station and sit around drinking coffee for 2 - 3 hours before you get them back to rent out again. You lose an employee for half the day - a cost which then has to be added on to the cost of renting. Compared with an ICE car that is returned empty where the employee can take it down to the gas station, fill it up and be back 30 minutes later ready for handing over to a new customer.

The ones that make me laugh who support EV's are always stating they have a life...Yeh right they spend their life charging their EV's after they have eventually found a working charger..Some life......LOL
