Purchase price isn't everything. For example, there are perfectly good and reliable wristwatches for a tenner, but people spend £50, £100, £500 and even thousands to own particular brands and/or technologies... And there are perfecty good ICE vehicles out there that are faf far cheaper than EV's and there is no que to fill them up at the pumps. BYD have just launched one for $11k. It's a 4-seater basic family car.

That's down to long-term industrial planning. The CPC saw the way the market was going to go years ago, so the whole of China geared up to automotive production, like I even saw it some years ago with Chinese chip makers. Between them they have all the manufacturers to make the various parts and all the industry to supply them as well. It's called vertical integration. and im sure the Chinese are sitting laughing at the stupidity of the western nations. They must be. They are master strategists, like Russian chess players but even more so.
I notice Ford and GM have some prissy women to run them.

I would have to drive that distance to find a bloody charger. And in a freezing lemon with a misted up windscreen to boot.

I can't see you doing over 170m in a day just by going shopping. If you commute to work the the firm should have chargers. Anyway, it is a bloody good deal for that money. Also with house charging, people are getting into setting up large solar arrays so you can travel with free leccy. All these things are coming down in price, such as batteries, solar panels. Production is heavily automated.

Imo EVs will be generally accepted when there is no other choice but to drive an EV

Solar batteries should be perfectly safe if you are not a complete idiot and use them according to the instructions. By the way, those gas canisters were launching like rockets. It was like Baghdad that morning! (home made Scuds)
