That's simple zany. The fucking things don't work and are a waste of real estate. A tad harsh Jonksy, I believe they work fine in the summer. lol...

Right now I understand the solar + heatpump + water heater and batteries, if all done properly will be cheaper than conventional gas heating. It's a large investment, but over say ten years you would be better off and still have a warm house. They do make sense for new houses because a lot of the cost is retrofitting better insulation. Remember before 1973 fuel was very cheap. My view is it is high time the proles got to work improving their accommodation. Less paperwork and more graft is needed. If the Victorians could build so many quality houses then we should be able to do it, and we can knock the crap ones down.

Once again, it's silly to want to project a set of problems that are unique to the UK onto other, more developed countries. Nonsense. The problems are related to attempting to move a large part of our transport from one energy source to another. Every country that tries to do it will have the same problems to a greater or lesser extent. And some of the problems are pretty intractable - like how to store electricity and how to move electricity quickly. With oil it's simple. The overall trouble in how we do this is we are not behaving life free market capitalists. China sussed out how to make cheaper cars than the EU, so what the EU are doing is punishing them for their success by backing the losers. I'm damn glad we got out of the EU, but the stupid thinking remains. In the free market it works as follows. Someone invents something and that invention is found to solve problems, not create them - big difference. The history of the laser is often cited as a good example of how a technology starts off theoretical and gradually finds its used virtually everywhere. Those lithium batteries are like lasers now. They have become ubiquitous. When sodium batteries perform as well we will switch to them instead, and no doubt there will be other batteries, like solid batteries are just emerging as a contender. For those who want to make money rather than lose it, the trick is to be creative and make use of a range of different technologies to create a better product than what already exists. No one in the free market would wish to punt inferior solutions. Our problem is essentially we have a socialist government who are Marxists.

I believe neither of you have the faintest idea how they work.

One thing I don't get is the need to convert the heat into very hot water then waste energy pushing it into radiators to mimic central heating. In my home several well placed units blow warm air through the house. Its much easier for a heat pump to generate air at 25 degrees that water at 65 degrees.

You know hyperloop is nothing to do with climate change? No ofcourse you don't.

In my home several well placed units blow warm air through the house. Its much easier for a heat pump to generate air at 25 degrees that water at 65 degrees. We learnt all this in thermodynamics. If you heat a room the less the difference the heater is to the room temperature the less the increase in entropy. If the entropy of the system does not increase the process is said to be reversible, which is the point of maximum efficiency. You want an efficient heat exchanger. This is achieved by a black surface and large surface area. Air pressure can also increase rate of thermal transfer. Also with an airgap insulation, the optimum distance is about 2 inches gap. Less than that you get too much conduction through the air and more than that can set up heat transfer via convection.

No one in the free market would wish to punt inferior solutions. Our problem is essentially we have a socialist government who are Marxists. That is the correct point although you seem to be missing it. In a free market the consumer would be able to choose between competing options - however what we have now is government regulation determining what technology the consumer is allowed to buy. In a truly free market nobody would be buying cheap chinese electric cars.

You know hyperloop is nothing to do with climate change? No ofcourse you don't. Where did I state it was? Every year we have these promises by the same set of loons that we have reached the promised land and have energy in abundance.
