Did the trouble only start on Saturday? Hamas are the government of Gaza, Israel is the government of the area defined as Israel. The Gaza government invaded the Israeli area of jurisdiction in the process deliberately killing and torturing Israeli civilians and taking hostages. That seems to the nuts and bolts of it. Simple isn't it? Gaza is an 'occupied' territory and Israel has, for a long time held it in a state of permanent siege, Israel control and ration the power, water, food and border whilst encroaching on the territory. "The group was founded in 1987 by Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, a Palestinian refugee living in Gaza, during the first intifada, or uprising, which was marked by widespread protests against Israel's occupation".

Serious question here Why are we supposed to hate the Jews? I know it's a typical 'joke' we should laugh, but seriously, why are the Jews hated so much. A bigger question, if they were 'Black' or 'Muslims' this kind of racism would not be allowed, ...... come on I need help here, what is going on? I don't think that most of us do. I think the issue is the politics of envy: The Jews are hard working and therefore tend to be successful. And that attracts petty jealousies, especially of the left. We don't hate Jews, this is just a tool used by the right to attack the left. We are against the 'stealing' of Palestinian land by the Israeli government, that would be the same if they were not Jewish.

Israel control the water, access, airspace and territorial waters, what else would you call it.

Israel left Gaza in 2005 and then Hamas took power.
How is it in anyway occupied? It is completely run by Palestinians.....
September 12, 2005. The last Israeli soldiers leave Gaza early Monday, ending 38 years of Israeli occupation. Thousands of Palestinians rushed into the area that used to be the Jewish settlements in Gaza, and burned at least four synagogues.

Again you argue semantics. Gaza is viewed as an occupied territory by the UN because Israel has full control of its borders, airspace and territorial waters despite having formally withdrawn its forces and settlers from the enclave in 2005. Israel had captured the enclave along with other Palestinian territories – East Jerusalem and the West Bank – in the 1967 Six-Day War.

The UN has also called for the immediate release of all Israeli hostages.
If you're going to cite the UN, maybe you start citing and following their wishes too.
There is no doubt in my mind that the minute those hostages are handed over this entire situation can begin to deescalate and will do so rapidly.

There are, and always has been Jewish people of the Left and of the Right, there is an Israeli Labour Party, and therefore attempts to portray this conflict as Left ( pro Palestinians ) and Right ( pro Isreal ) is meaningless and nonsense. As a person of "The Left" ( moderate left ), I see wrong on both sides, and as late the Jewish Labour MP Gerald Kaufman once said, sometimes the Israelis behave like Nazis ( and Gerald Kaufman had every right to say that, because his own grandparents were murdered in cold blood by Nazis ). Sometimes the Palestinians - or those that claim to represent the Palestinians, also act like Nazis, they kill innocent people simply because they are Jews. Both sides need their heads banging together and they need to be told to work something out, before more innocent people are killed. But will this ever happen ? I think on the Tory right some have called out underhand policies to support Israel in the past like Michael Ancram Deputy Leader of the Conservstive Party and also Peter Oborne former journalist for the Telegraph who investigated the parties for Friends of Israel. He said their funds were not traceable yet they punched above their weight in the media. To give some background to the current round of bloodshed with Hamas, Netanyahu has been trying to change the law so he cannot be tried for corruption post leader. It was a real political row now overshadowed due to Hamas killings and Gaza stand-off. This buys him political time, their media was quick to call it a 9/11 - why? As the US got the Patriot Act so what will Netanyahu look to bring in to save his skin after he steps down? Remember Israel had good security measures that got breached, no official explanation to how this happened..
