Red we have done this repeatedly. Even Dan - hardly a “leftie” explained this to you. We are not going back round this well trodden nonsense yet again. Now explain what a “job centre” in Africa many many years ago has to do with illegal immigration or people entering Europe to claim asylum in 2023. Pillock. You're tying to give the impression it was oh so long ago, but the fact is you know perfectly well the EU opened job centres in Africa first in 2008, then in 2009 and from 2006 the EU spent €billions promoting the EU in Africa. Now the EU are spending €billions in an attempt to stop the cross Med invasion they encouraged. The European migration disaster that will change Europe, and the UK, forever is 100% the fault of the EU. It was designed and implemented from Brussels. This has been explained to you over and over again but you refuse to accept facts. EU job centres in Africa... link - link - link - link - link - link many more links available. Do I assume too much if I assume you have access to google? The so called “job centre” that never advertised or filled a single job opened 15 years ago in Bamako . Take a deep breath and explain to me what impact you are claiming they had on a 20 year old Nigerian lad in 2023 leaving home hoping to live in Europe.

ZG, the EU were in Africa well before it kicked off in Syria. At a glance, the EU were talking about inviting Africa to come to Europe as far back as 2006, they opened job centres in 2008 and 2009, and the civil war in Syria started in 2011. As an aside, rumour has it the reason, or at least one of the reasons the EU were pouring money into Africa is because they were concerned about their reliance on Russian gas and were keen to exploit African gas reserves. Their concerns were well founded, if a tad late.

Their concerns were well founded, if a tad late. They were also justifiably concerned about China's growing investment and their cornering of the rare metals market. Not sure if immigration needed to be part of the equation, but building bridges with African countries was long over due as the returns could be enormous.

Still trying to understand what in Red’s head is the link between “job centres” without any jobs in 2008 in Bamako to a Nigerian asylum seeker or illegal immigrant in 2023, or the relevance of Merkle’s response to the Syrian crisis in 2015 to that Nigerian or the source of Red’s seemingly imaginary quote.

Good luck with that.

Why has a thread on the political compass descended into Red's confusion over legal and illegal migration again?

Why has a thread on the political compass descended into Red's confusion over legal and illegal migration again? Confusion! 'Legal' migrants have visas. Illegal migrants destroy all ID and pay traffickers to get them to an English beach. I assure you, any confusion is with my detractors.

Not accurate of course but let's for the sake or argument accept your categorization. What would a job centre in Bamako, were it to exist, providing legal migrants with visas to do jobs in say Spain have to do with an "illegal migrant" travelling to Dover to claim asylum?

Why has a thread on the political compass descended into Red's confusion over legal and illegal migration again? What confusion? The clue is in the title 'illegal' migrants, that's their official title, this forum hasn't just made it up, so you see by the mere fact that is their definition that means they are in the UK illegally, and are criminals.
Illegal meaning Illegal, unlawful, illegitimate, illicit, criminal can all describe actions not in accord with law.
