I didn't ask who you will vote for. Frankly don't care. Could you answer the question I asked please. I did. I told you I will support neither, even if one is a bit better - by which I mean a bit less shit - than the other. You hit me with a question based on a false premise - that one party will give me nothing that I want whilst the other will give me half of what I want. And that what I want is paramount to me. Which if any I choose to vote for is implicit in your question. So if you dont give a fuck whom I vote for, why ask your question? I dont think either party will give me half of what I want, but both will give a few crumbs. And I want what is best for the struggling masses not just me. So neither party will get my vote. And that is the only answer you will get and deserve.

I speak as I find on every occasion. Sometimes the Left don't like it, sometimes the right. It is not a criminal offence to leave the EU. Quite clearly it's not a criminal offence to enter or leave the EU. Thanks to incompetent unelected morons who govern from behind closed doors and invited Africa to Europe, it would seem the EU have no control over their borders, such as they are. It is a criminal offence to enter the EU without documentation, but as the people are passing through and leaving by the time the authorities find them its cheaper to let them move on. What would you have us (Britain) do if the traffic was going the other way? Please answer this.

ZG, you say: "but as the people are passing through and leaving by the time the authorities find them its cheaper to let them move on". With the best will in the world, this doesn't make much sense. Moving on. If hundreds of thousands of criminals were flocking down English beaches en route for the EU/France I suspect we would see street parties on a scale we havent seen since VE day. However, you can bet the government would stop it, there would be mobile patrols up and down the coast, foot patrols on beaches, vessels patrolling the channel and aircraft patrolling the coastline. The pro EU government would be falling over themselves to avoid annoying the EU.

Indeed yes, I bet they would. And the UK government would obviously foot the bill.

Well Labour ARE better than the Tories. Just about everyone is right now. But just because dry cow shit is better than wet cow shit, does not mean I want to pick either of them up. I can never vote Tory and there are far too many reasons why I cannot vote for Starmer's Labour but that requires a thread all of its own. I will still vote though, pointless as it is under our current system. I will vote for any socialist candidate and if there isn't one I will vote Green. And if there is no Green I would rather vote Lib Dem than Labour, all the while holding my nose against the stench of rottenness.

BTW, you do know you've just said France is better than us. π

I sympathise with much of your position. I'm just a pragmatist. Labour say they'll build more homes, that is the single biggest thing any government could do to help the poorest. Bring down rental and house prices, then even if the greedy bastards do raise interest rates so the poor have to give the rich more money they don't need. At least the amount borrowed is less. I like the Greens but the focus is too focused for me. Too much talk of making every home a thermos flask and no talk of making homes. What's your view on using tax to slow inflation rather than interest rate rises?

Stopping the boats and returning illegal migrants would save 2.5 billion in the first year alone, it would release border force and RNLI to do the jobs they are supposed to do and it would remove a blight from many communities up and down the country and bring hotels back to being public facilities. It would also release a large amount of accommodation for use by the British in need. In terms of illegal migrants I would make that across the board for anyone whose right to remain here is non existent or expired and those who gained UK citizenship by fraud.

What's your view on using tax to slow inflation rather than interest rate rises? Re your latter point, I have argued somewhere for exactly that. Interest rate rises aim to dampen down inflation by taking money out of people's pockets, takes little account of who is spending the most money and it misses many people entirely. Whilst others are protected initially by fixed rate mortgages. And thus as a measure to reduce demand isa rather innefective, And the proceeds just enrich greedy bankers. Far better to do the same thing - dampen demand by taking money out of people's pockets and thereby reduce inflation via taxation - band thus in a much more evenly spread way with those spending the most having their spending dampened down the most. And any proceeds can be spent on economically or socially worthwhile objectives rather more useful than enriching bankers.

Making gold from bronze would be even better, but I was talking about possible things. To date short of machine gunning them in the channel I haven't heard any practical way of stopping illegal migrants coming here. On top of that you are way off if we lowered the average house price by Β£100,000 it would save buyers and renters Β£280Bn a year.
