When it comes to lying he makes Boris look like a lightweight amateur. When I first heard Sunak say that the ban on petrol/diesel cars from 2030 would be postponed to 2035 I thought that it was at last a bit of commonsense. OK it didn't go far enough because I don't think they should be banned at all - if electric cars are better then people will buy them anyway and if they're not better then sale of new petrol/diesel should not be banned.
However, this postponement on the ban to 2035 is not the worth the paper it's written on because the requirement that 80% of cars sold by car manufacturers are fully electric remains. So from 2030 80% of new cars sold must be BEVs or the manufacturer is heavily fined. So effectively a manufacturer will have to sell 4 new BEVs before it can sell 1 petrol/diesel car. So best of luck being able to get hold of a petrol/diesel car.
It's another example of how our laws get chopped and changed by various politicians and end up a total fucking mess. This law makes no sense whatsoever.

That's actually pretty good for a hybrid - they're usually less than 30 miles. Hybrids were always a con to fool the WLTP test into giving huge mpg figures. I take the boys to work most days when it's not raining its around trip of about 70miles per day. So a hybrid would still fall short. I fill my diesel truck once a week and still have plenty left per week after all the work and private use I give my truck. |

Yes but the basic point of the hybrid is to allow the car to do most of the EU WLTP test on electric power and a 30 mile range is quite sufficient for that - which is why most of them are limited to about 30 miles. Quite why the WLTP test is fooled I don't know, but it plainly doesn't take enough account of the electric power used because it delivers fictional mpg figures for hybrids (well over 100 mpg usually). But the reason why the manufacturers have to market hybrids is because the EU hands out big fines for manufacturers who breach required average mpg figures across their range. If you have a few hybrids in your range it raises the average mpg and avoids fines. The fact that the hybrids are actually less efficient than the petrol/diesel car they're derived from doesn't really matter. |

You could own one of these hybrids and never hear the engine start up. |

They are now geared up for it as the Chinese are flooding the market already with much cheaper electric cars than they can produce. Almost like they knew beforehand. |

To be fair we even tried to get the largest battery manufacturing plant outside China up and running, alas Boris and his crew of vagabonds scuppered that one and instead chose to supplement the already dying on their feet controlled via the EU manufacturers.
