News emerging today that in the latest display of utter incompetence , they have changed the rules in respect of those given refugee status. Quite rightly people who have become refugees are expected to work and support themselves. They get 28 days to vacate state provided housing and find their own accommodation. A tight deadline given they have not been allowed to work while awaiting a decision and have no idea when that decision will be made so no way of preparing for it.
The latest genius idea from the Home Office is to change the way of calculating the 28 days. Instead of 28 days from the date the new citizen of the UK is told of their status, it will now be 28 days from the date the decision was made. Due to HO incompetence it usually takes around three weeks for them to get around to communicating their decision.
So the message we now give to our new citizens?
“Welcome to the UK. We hope you will be a valued citizen of our country. By the way you are homeless at the end of the week.”
Staggering.

How much of our GDP and deficit are you prepared to spend on asylum seekers dappy? Is it OK to ruin our country? - because if we do, they will just move on to another.

You seem to be asking a different question to the one in the thread.
Do you defend making homeless with seven days notice people we have decided will be living here working here as part of our community?

I'd also note that the homeless you are emoting about are not citizens so there is no reason for the rest of us to adopt your exaggerated outrage.
They've probably already had many months if not years clamped on the public teat so will have had plenty of time to make their own arrangements.

If an asylum seeker is granted asylum, they do not become a British Citizen, but they do have the "Right To Remain" here as "residents".
Dappy is of course 100% correct - and whilst I welcome this move, and whilst it is only right and proper to expect new residents to stand on their own two feet ( and MOST do want to ), pulling the carpet from under their feet is not good enough, and is yet another sign of an incompetent, ridiculous and completely out of touch government.

Dappy believes we owe them a better life. We owe successful asylum applicants the chance and opportunity to make a better life for themselves, which does not mean making it difficult, awkward or impossible for them. Giving a successful asylum applicant 4 weeks notice to find a job and home from the date of a decision, when the time lapse between decision and receiving the decision can be 3 weeks, is not good enough, not acceptable, and it will drive new legal residents into poverty and crime. F***ing idiotic government

'Individuals granted refugee status or humanitarian protection may be eligible to apply for settlement protection (also referred to as indefinite leave to remain) once they have completed the required probationary period of 5 years’ limited leave.'

The response to this thread was entirely predictable.
The sensible position even if you believe that new asylum seekers should be discouraged or somehow outlawed altogether would be to recognise that it is in both the country and the individuals interest to get those receiving asylum and hence being a probably long term resident of our country off to a good start. But that would be a “shades of grey” opinion and these days only black or white opinions are allowed.
