Gosh I seem to have touched a nerve here. I can almost picture poor old Thomas frothing at the mouth in indignation that someone would have the temerity to suggest that Scotland might not actually be a proper country as the term is customarily understood and therefore shouldn't have any need to do things like conducting its own censuses.

Dan , im calmly sitting having my morning coffee , and spending a few valuable minutes of my time helping another poor unfortunate by gently lifting his nose away from the english newspapers and educating him.
You can suggest anything you like. It doesnt make it true , and outside of this forum and the bear pit of debate , we scots dont need to tell each other scotland is a proper country , we merely whisper it in confidence.
Meanwhile , when you educate people like yourself dan , and show them the uk is the entity that isnt a country , but a multi national state , that hasnt even been a unitary state now for a quarter of a century , for some strange reasons we seem to see certain folk go into fits of apoplectic rage.
Away though from the gentle rib poking , and pouts of anglo saxon dismay , in the real world wether you like it or not , scotland does do its own census , and has done since the 19th century.
Imagine the uk aka bwitian not even doing simple things like issuing british birth certificates , or having its own native british language , or its own football team , or british leagues , or a uk census , or a british legal system and all the other things that any normal unitary state across the world takes for granted and doesant even have to talk about , and you imply we arent a proper country?
