thomas >> Blair had the opportunity to block eastern european migration for a set time period as the rest of the EU did except ireland and sweden , and he chose not to. The blame lies fully and fairly on the new labour government. -----------------------------------------------------------
And you have the audacity to call me a "bull shitter" ?
The nations which applied no time limit restrictions were The UK, Cyprus, Sweden, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ireland, however the UK, unlike the other 5, did apply welfare restrictions.
Nations which applied a two year restriction were Finland, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Greece and Luxembourg.
France was the only EU country which applied the full 5 year restriction, but only on certain categories of migrants. No restrictions applied to students, the self employed, researchers or service providers.
I make that six EU nations which did not apply Transition Periods
However, you could argue all day about immigration, and on here people do, but regardless of your opinion on immigration, I know very well that this country under Tony Blair was IMMENSELY better than it is today. Living standards were rising instead of falling, we saw huge improvements in the NHS and public services, people were better off, we had a long period of sustained growth, the economy did well, unemployment, inflation and interest rates stayed low.
The country today is a mess, and there is barely a year left before this government will be gone, and it will be time for the Tories to think hard about where they have gone wrong, and how to win back power.

Starmer is stringing the SNP along, because he might need them for a coalition, that will be one of the factors Yousaf will hold over Labour, their support for indyref2, Starmer's future is within the EU just like the Blair's, that's why he's always got Tony Blair lurking in the shadows, imagine having Starmer and Blair running the UK, it's quite frankly stuff of nightmares, but there are idiots out there who are going to turn that scenario in to reality. i know fairsociety , but its always fun watching labour play at being a serious political party. My question is how would the english electorate react to a labour government propped up by the snp? Would england forgive labour?
If you think about it , its no skin off starmers nose , to carve up the uk into wee statelets , and then hand it over as a sacrifice to brussells. He knows scotland is already pro european , its just his wee "english problem" that is dogging him.
Given the fact that a lot of voters just vote for a party or their local MP, however many of them don't really know the ins-and-outs of how it works.
They won't realise until after they've voted for Labour that they will also be getting the SNP, but we know it will be too late then.
We know just by a handful of posters on here that it is near impossible to try and talk sense in to them, and you can guarantee they have the same mindset as millions more out there, when you read some of the lefty posts on here it's jaw dropping, I shake my head and roll my eyes in disbelief.

There seems to be an awfull lot of Assumption going on here just now
According to EVERY opinion poll conducted over the last 11 months, Labour will not need the SNP or anyone else to form a government.
According to the "poll of all polls" done on a monthly basis by Electoral Calculus, a general election tomorrow would result in a Labour majority of 224 - so why the talk of doing deals with the SNP.
Its not only Labour who are forecast to do well next year, its also the Liberal Democrats, especially in the South of England, they a predicted to end up with more seats than the SNP.

If we'd have taken notice to polls, Brexit wasn't going to happen, and Hilary Clinton was going to beat Donald Trump ..... LOL

Polls can be off course, polls can be inaccurate to a degree, and they can be "outliners", meaning something went wrong with the methodology.
However, for every poll over a period of 11 months to show a big gap between the Tories and Labour, no, absolutely no, they have not all got it way off target, it just does not happen these days.

No they did not Opinium Poll 22 - 23 June 2016 showed LEAVE ahead TNS poll 16 - 22 June, also showed LEAVE ahead YouGov poll 18 - 19 June showed LEAVE ahead I could go on, but is it not the case that in the run up to the referendum, the polls all showed a close margin and a tight race. ? The polls for the next general election do not show a tight race - none of them, they all show the Tories a long way behind. And that Ladies & Gentlemen is the difference
