a hint is the DailyMail as an illegal asylum seeker or overstayer commits a crime and the question arises why were they still here.
Watching silent witness a few years ago and it was suggested on a program there are routes out of the country probably by boat to avoid customs and passport control.
I would suspect that does happen for a fee.

An interesting article in the Times provides an insight into the asylum seeker puzzle I hadn't seen before. "Figures published by the Home Office show there were a total of 89,398 asylum applications submitted last year. Of these, 41,188 were submitted by migrants who crossed the Channel in small boats. A further 30,000 were from migrants who entered the UK clandestinely through other routes and the remaining 18,000 were from people who had been in the UK for some time, such as foreign nationals on study or work visas who overstayed and claimed asylum to avoid returning to their home country." www.thetimes.co.uk/article/22000-migrants-entered-uk-illegally-2022-rcbwnh8tlAs long suspected the majority of asylum seekers don't arrive in small boats.

Yet the 46% coming by boats require housing costing the tax payer billions.

The cost of supporting an asylum seeker is the same no matter what the mode of transport.

The cost of supporting an asylum seeker is the same no matter what the mode of transport. Correct Dan. Unfortunately that's the sort of ignorance that pervades this board, and actually makes a mockery of Rishi's "Stop the Boats". It's particularly designed to cater to the xenophobe thickos.

The cost of supporting an asylum seeker is the same no matter what the mode of transport. That depends on whether Mosques or other Muslims are supporting them or friends and family already here.

It can't be that hard to track down visa overstayers , how are they affording to keep themselves, the moment they try to register for work, or any form of benefits they will flag up as a overstayer. Thats why Braverman has said there will be big fines for people employing illegals or renting rooms to them . You will find them working in kitchens , newsagents, sweat shops and building sites for minimal /slave rate wages
