We lefties care passionately about homelessness and regard it as a national disgrace. We want to tackle it by controlling extortionate rents, giving private tenants security of tenure, building a lot more social housing and a lot more genuinely affordable housing to buy whilst restricting the ability of wealthy investors to buy it all up then let it out at extortionate rents. You bleat about homelessness but what do you right wingers ever do about it? And the fact that millions are struggling to make ends meet is down to the Tories, in power for the last 12 years And I'm sure that most of us can remember Labour bleating about all of that and then doing precisely fuck all about it during their three terms in office.

I was never a fan of Blairite Labour and refused to even vote Labour in 2005 and 2010. Just another bunch of soft thatcherites and the fact that they conrinued with Tory housing policies unchanged is why they did fuck all about it. House prices determine the size of the deposit needed, and interest rates are rising sharply now or havent you noticed... And house prices are dropping, or haven't you noticed? And what about rents? 30 years ago I was able to rent a one bedroom flat for £120 a month... Not around here you couldn't. A similar property today would cost me 5, 6, or 7 times as much When I bought my first flat the going rate for renting them was £500 a month. Nowadays it's just over £1,000 - which is pretty much the same when adjusted for inflation. The maths don't lie, Shrieky. So do stop talking rubbish. It is a well established fact that private rents are on average much higher in real terms than they used to be, whatever personal exceptions you manage to conjure up. I have just proved to you what you denied, that rents have doubled in just ten years. You ignore that of course. As for mortgages, they are going through the roof right now after a favourable period of low interest rates which simply masked the effect of spiralling prices for a time. |

I was born here and I do not want others to pay for my every want. If I can't afford it I don't purchase it the same as any other person who has any common sense.
