No, it's simply pointing out that UK law draws a clear distinction between 'asylum seeker' and 'refugee' whereas the principal international agreement does not.
In the Refugee Convention an individual becomes a refugee immediately he leaves his home country while in UK (and EU) law he does not attain that status until the government says that he does. In the meantime he is referred to and counted as an 'asylum seeker' and then only once the government has agreed to register his claim.
Clarity and accuracy are very important in these matters.

It must be very frightening crossing the channel in a small boat which is always at risk of capsizing. A 300 room barge in Portland Harbour is not at risk of capsizing.. It must be very frightening crossing the channel in a small boat which is always at risk of capsizing and could cause a phobia of drowning to occur.

There are a million 'asylum seekers' in Wales? Why are the leaving a safe country, England, to get to Wales? oh just piss off. You know exactly what i’m talking about. Wankford is looking to hand out free money equating to double the maximum old age pension and all the defence legal briefs you need to anyone who makes it across the severn bridge as part of his fucking insane nation of sanctuary plans. And if that doesn’t bring EVERY fucking illegal who’s ever jumped in a truck hopped in a boat or swam it to come and vote labour which he has enabled the bastards to do unlike england which has at least still got some sense …. No I don't know exactly what you are talking about. RedRum -"Where do you get the 'million' number from?" johnofgwent -"all the illegals coming out of the woodwork to claim their £1600 a month untaxed unmeanstested basic income and free legal assistance to fight what should be done to the freeloaders". At the last count there were only 45ish thousand asylum seekers across in 2022 and 170,000 in the backlog, so where are you getting the figure of a million?

Now we know that, we'll have to make sure they are only offered inland accommodation, they didn't seem to have a phobia of water staying at the Hilton 4* Snowdonia hotel. They can't be place in seaside resorts then.

I see that there have been a few enquiries by pensioners wanting to know if there were any spare rooms on the Barge. Apparently free accomodation, free food, free wifi, free recreation facilities, no worries about energy bills and a 24 hour onsite nurse and priority access to a GP is quite enticing...
...who would have thought..

I should think that if these poor brave new British people fleeing war torn Calais can bring themselves to cross the English Channel then walking up a gang plank to a nice warm bunk bed should be achievable. This farce is making a laughing stock of the UK around the world.
If we could go back to 2000 and look at all this we would not believe what is happening, there is no political leadership, no idea of how to solve the problem and most importantly no will to solve it because the establishment don't even think that there is a problem.
Lee Anderson has it right, if they don't like it they can fuck off back to France, and take Care4Calaise with them.

But don't we have a duty of care to these vulnerable people who have been driven from their homes by war, oppression, pestilence or penury? At least that's what the standard narrative as set out by the opinion-forming class and their camp followers on the progressive left would have us believe.
If you won't conform then that's because you're a very bad person.

Makes you wonder why they go to the trouble of paying people smugglers to get them from the safe EU state of France to England.

If you won't conform then that's because you're a very bad person. as i believe you are already aware, while bits of the EU were still shooting and bombing each other the UK did start looking to sign a number of treaties and legal agreements that bind us to consider the welfare of refugees fleeing conflict or fleeing persecution for what were a fairly simple to understand set of things which can all be put under the general blanket of being legal to be, do it say at Speakers Corner in Hyde Park but far from legal in their place of origin. The problem is the vast number of people trying it on to get in here for a better lifestyle - and by doing so dragging this country down to the shithole level of the one they have left. If they were genuinely fleeing death they wouldn't leave their relatives at home and send money back to them would they.

Some astonishing facts uncovered by Channel Four News tonight
An immigration officer tells C4 News that the number of experienced, well trained Asylum Applicant interviewers has gone down, and in their place are newer, lower paid, untrained applicant interviewers. The officer tells C4 News that basically someone who worked for Greggs a few weeks ago, could be interviewing Asylum applicants today.
The Law Society stated on the same news edition that 50% of all appeals against refusal for Asylum are successfull, which suggests ( according to them ) that the entire system is seriously flawed.
The average time taken for an Asylum application from begining to decision is over one year
Channel 4's latest poll involving 14,000 people over the course of a month ending August 4th, and done in conjunction with Electoral Calculus, indicates that a general election held tomorrow may result in Rishi Sunaks Conservatives winning less than 100 seats.
Asylum is affecting Tory support, but not in a way the Tories might have hoped, people are blaming the government.

And pillocks like drakeford and khan are affecting Blair steamer being elected and if you think the Welsh windbag mk2 is impressing with his pronouncements on asylum seekers you’ll be mistaken there too.
