Tony Blair is not done with Britain. His vehicle of influence is his ideas factory-cum-consultancy, the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. If Labour wins the next election, the TBI could be the UK’s most significant think-tank (though an argument might be made for the Resolution Foundation which campaigns on living standards)
There are clear dangers for Sir Keir Starmer in too close a relationship. Blair remains a polarising figure, not least within Labour, but also an increasingly uncompromising one. Friends say he is a man who feels he did not get to complete his project of transforming Britain — frustrated by his Iraq war legacy and his failure to build support for the EU and head off Brexit. The TBI is his vehicle for reviving that mission.
