Yet many BNP supporters switched seemlessly to supporting UKIP which is why the rise of UKIP saw the collapse in BNP support. Like the guy in the flat opposite to mine who in every election used to have a vote BNP poster in his window, but later switched to a vote UKIP poster. There weren't that many BNP supporters to begin with. In 2009 UKIP had already got 2,498,226 voters. The BNP in 2009 got 943,598, even if every single one of them decided to vote UKIP in 2014, the UK Independence Party got 4,376,635 votes. That's still 3,433,037 people who did not vote BNP when the BNP got their big vote and two MEPs in 2009.

Wow, that's some conclusive evidence right there.
Guess what, the rise of UKIP support saw a decline in Labour and Conservative support.
So what? It is no secret that some of these switched to UKIP too. The BNP vote virtually did en masse though. Many UKIP supporters - far from all, but many - were closet racists, including many former BNP voting types. You have given one word of mouth example. From my experience the UKIP was mostly despised by the BNP. Of course, the UKIP's Friends of Israel would have upset both the BNP and Corbyn's Labour.

Reference BNP and Ukip — it seems difficult not to believe that for many Tunbridge Wells blue rinse and Col Blimp Tory types, Ukip provided a decent and more acceptable face for their racist and xenophobic views with which they were sympathetic to the BNP…

Now that the Police have had time to investigate the man who attacked the Migrant Holding Centre and know more about him, the conclusion by the Police according to days media is Andrew Leak, 66, from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, is believed to have killed himself after throwing two or three "crude" incendiary devices at the Western Jet Foil site, in Kent, last Sunday. Tim Jacques, senior national co-ordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing, said: "Assessing when this crosses the terrorism threshold is a complex process and needs to be carefully considered on a case-by-case basis. "These decisions need to be determined by the facts, as far as they can be established at any given time. "After considering the evidence collected so far in this case, whilst there are strong indications that mental health was likely a factor, I am satisfied that the suspect's actions were primarily driven by an extremist ideology. "This meets the threshold for a terrorist incident."
So this solitary unfortunate chap is considered a terrorist but the Extinction Rebellion / Stop Oil mob aren't?
Craziness.

I guess part of the reason is that Leak physically made and threw the fire bombs in support of his message, whereas Stop Oil are not using weapons…
PS — however, it does look like the serious criminal charge of conspiracy is now being brought into use…

Because whilst most BNP voters of a racist bent switched seamlessly to UKIP, the latter also attracted many votes from elsewhere too. Doesn't gainsay my initial point that UKIP attracted most of the BNP's support.

The latter may employ dubious tactics but they never firebombed anyone.

I think it's great that a non racist alternative appeared and killed off the BNP. In the General Election of 2010 the BNP got 564,331 votes. By 2015 they were getting less than 5 thousand votes. The BNP are a DEAD party. Don't worry, be happy.
