Weapons of Mass Destruction are any Chemical, Nuclear or Biological weapon which can inflict significant harm to numerous persons at one time, or cause significant damage. So WMD are not limited to Nuclear Weapons In violation of the Geneva Protocol of 1925, the Iraqi Army initiated two failed (1970–1974, 1974–1978) and one successful (1978–1991) offensive chemical weapons (CW) programs. President Saddam Hussein (1937–2006) pursued the most extensive chemical program during the Iran–Iraq War (1980–1988), when he waged chemical warfare against his foe. He also used chemicals in 1988 in the Al-Anfal Campaign against his civilian Kurdish population and during a popular uprising in the south in 1991. People continualy talk about "dodgy dossiers and lies", but the FACT is that Saddam Hussain had a history of developing and using Weapons of Mass Destruction. Who has used weapons of mass destruction? The only country to have used a nuclear weapon in war is the United States, which dropped two atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II.

Well there are many countries around the world that already have or are developing WMD's - are you suggesting we should invade all of them?. The UK stopped being the Middle Easts policeman in 1956 - it is not a role that I think we need or can afford. |

You didn't ask WHY we invaded Iraq, you asked WHEN DID SADDAM BECOME A THREAT TO THE UK. I asked you to clarify why that matters. |

Well If someone is not a threat to me why should I go and start a war with them?. Well that would take a very long answer. The simple answer would be to ask when Hitler threatened the UK, certainly not when he invaded Poland. The phrase "And if you tolerate this then your children will be next" comes to mind. The more complex answer is all about global stability and stopping things before they go too far. Added into this is basic humanity and what defines us from the beasts. Then there is the issue of waiting until he is a threat to us and fighting a much harder war or seeing him finally develop long range weapons and be evil enough to use them, not necessarily on us but on say on other gulf states who we rely on for oil and gas. As I say its a whole book full of reasons why you can't wait for the thugs the bang on your door before you join the fight against them. |

Well we went to Polands aid when they were invaded because we have a Treaty with them. Whether we should have had that Treaty has been argued about since the day it was signed. Your other point about global stability and stopping things before they go too far sounds exactly like being the worlds policeman which is a role I have no interest in the UK carrying out. |

So you think the reason we went to war with Germany is because we had a treaty with Poland. You really need to read a good history book. As for opting out of the world, I'm afraid that's not a realistic option. Sooner or later the world opts you in. Again read a bit of history. Perhaps Ukraine should have opted out of the world and then Russia wouldn't have invaded them. |
