Vivere pericolosamente! Live on the edge once in a while! Try playing in the amateur football leagues in Liverpool Indeed, football involves risk. If you've lived on the edge by playing football, you can outrun a sloth and you are already halfway to being able to handle the very exciting possibility of meeting the occasional wolf or bear. It's just a matter of degree, and it just might be a welcome distraction from the dark world in which we're now living. Give beasts a chance!

Dear johnofgwent,
You doubt the re-introduction of woolly mammoths in the UK. But why not do it for Britain's biodiversity and a great boost for tourism.

Veronika Oleksychenko Woolly mammoths were a species especially adapted to very cold climates. The climate in the UK is too warm for them, especially in summer. They would never survive here unless provided with an artificially cold climate habitat. They would be better adapted to some of the remoter regions of Siberia, Alaska, or Northern Canada

They are already here. It is called the House of Commons. The ones who best disguise themselves and have learned advanced skills in snatch and hide are elevated to the House of Lords.

Dear Forumers,
Apparently Boris Johnson gave a speech in which he said Britain can "Build Back Beaver", regarding re-wilding. He was making a bit of fun by playing with the "Build Back Better" slogan. But re-wilding should not be treated like a joke. It is a great idea for Britain.

Veronika Oleksychenko Rewilding to some point is a good idea, but introducing animals that are known to kill humans, why on earth do that? Killer animals live in and around many countries so if people want to live in or visit such places, then let them. I would even ban the American Bully dogs. Not having to make allowances for killer animals is in many ways an advantage, that allows people to do other things with their time and money.

Beavers have been re-introduced, a nice start. Red Kites are now so common we forget it was only a few years back they were almost extinct. Yes, I find some reintroductions as desirable, but why introduce animals that can kill you, or your child or your spouse or your neighbours? I don't see the point. The reintroduction of lynx and wolves was seriously being considered — the benefit said to be the control of foxes and other native wildlife that requires regular culling to stop overrunning the countryside and maintain healthy populations. Many conservationists thought this a good idea, but politicians bowed to the farming lobby and squashed the idea… www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/news/2023/february/plans-to-reintroduce-lynx-and-wolves-to-england-could-be-put-on-hold.html

I haven’t seen a single fox around my village since I moved in. We have a village pond where Ducks and even chickens walk around freely . I suspect any wolves or bears would meet the same fate as the foxes around here.

Veronika Oleksychenko When Johnson talks of Beaver he is not thinking about re-wilding But no he shouldn't be joking about it , the people have had enough of the half arsed and unbalanced efforts to re-wild the UK . Too many stone age people and not enough tigers for me .

We’ve got a couple in N16 that don’t even move from where they’re sunning themselves when we walk by. Don’t know if local pets are in danger. The problems for us is their smelly crap in the garden and nighttime howling in summer, but there have been a couple of reports of kids being attacked…

I lived in Essex where the neighbour over the back fed them and another neighbour let them build a den under his shed. I opened my front door one day and saw a cub right by the doorstep. The foxes used my front path as a run. If you tried to block them off they just dug under the fence . A fox will attack a weak cat if it felt like it . One of my cats was bitten by a fox . They would certainly kill chickens that were walking about .
