The government’s plans to tackle the small boats crisis has been dealt a damaging blow in the House of Lords with peers demanding 11 key changes. Several defeats were inflicted by peers on Monday, with members backing amendments limiting the detention of children and pregnant women, inserting protections for LGBT+ asylum seekers and forcing asylum claims to be considered for anyone not deported within six months. Other revisions would include protections to modern slavery victims and strip out curbs on legal challenges to deportation. Several members of the House of Lords called for the Illegal Migration Bill, which aims to detain and deport all small boat migrants, to be withdrawn in light of last week’s Court of Appeal ruling that the Rwanda deal is unlawful. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rwanda-migrants-unlawful-small-boats-bill-b2368668.htmlYet again privileged peers attempt to delay government legislation and remind us why Lords reform is necessary.

Young lefties often complain about the fact that people move further to the political right as they get older. If that's the case, what's happened to the Lords? It's stuffed full of crusties who appear to be outraged fuckin lefties.

It's stuffed full of crusties who appear to be outraged fuckin lefties. Leftism used to be a financial thing for some people, but that changed with the Third Way, where we now have Social Justice and Wokeism, and Lefties sucking up to The Fatcat (the man) at the Big Corporation founded on far-right capitalist economics. Basically, and while this may well be heading into the realm of conspiracy theory, those with all the money and power will control the New Communism.
Many or most Lefties seem to be lower down on evolutionary scales. They would die out through natural selection without other people's work sustaining them. They're kept going as militant cannon fodder or useful idiots as part of the divide and rule.

Impose migrants on the poorest and make them pay for it . Sit back and enjoy mutual virtue signalling . Job done.

I don’t think the Lords are daft. I think the Lords care more about foreign migrants than ordinary Brits.

I see Jenrick has decided they must remove the 'welcome' sign at the entrance to an asylum centre he visited and also to paint over the cartoon murals on the walls intended to lift the spirits of the children of the asylum seekers, what a shite.
Maybe he could replace it with a sign saying "Work sets you free".

On another thread a while back I made a off-the-cuff sarcastic post.
I posted 'stick them on one of those Scottish remote islands like the Outer Hebrides, fuck all the ECHR can do about that, all legal and part of the sovereignty'.
low and behold I read this morning the idea is being put forward as a serious solution, I don't know why it was never considered from the get-go.

We have pro mass immigration Governments, and while they realise the need to pay lip service to the need on cutting migrant numbers, they do so in the certainty that they've created enough back stops to prevent it from actually happening. Blair, Brown, Cameron, May, Boris, Sunak ..... they all know what they're doing when they recommend list after list of Woke advocates to populate the House of Lords ... they know what they're doing when they talk about leaving the ECHR, but never lift a finger towards actually doing it. It's all a con, telling the public they're trying to achieve this or that, but all the time in the knowledge that they've funded in advance the necessary roadblocks to make sure it won't actually happen. As the Sunday Express explained (2nd July 2023) The means of failure are always assured before any new 'initiative' is proposed .... it's all a game with a predetermined outcome.
