A debating cmub is not intended to change any minds. It is to find flaws in logic and consistency in the arguments of the others. Whether someone changes his mind is not in the gift of the one who argues more coherently than the other. So, the purpose of a debate is to discover that you were right all along? Seems pretty pointless. This place is more like a social club than a debating forum. It is a social club built around a debating format. If we wanted to merely debate, we would go somewhere like Twitter. But we would be anonymous there. That's why we come here (well, most of us). This place is about its characters for a lot of us: the people we love to love and love to hate. A friend on a previous forum once said ''this place is my Kardashians''. I know exactly what she meant. It is a kind of reality TV experience where half the fun is shouting at the TV over the ridiculous things people say and do. |

Hopefully they are also laughing at themselves as it would be unfair not to include oneself if one is going to point and giggle. I have come across these superior beings who look down upon the hapless hordes of forum life and say they come for the entertainment. I find them grossly narcissistic.

What is unfortunate is the fact that you didn't understand my post. If you are goading me, forget it. My days of being inveigled into saying something that might entertain the peanut gallery are over.
I used to get annoyed with this sort of thing, but to quote Bob Dylan in a song: "People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range. I used to care, but things have changed."

You spend a lot of time looking at others with criticism yet express a dislike for those you think do the same.

You're wrong about me, but are entitled to your opinion. Note, I don't know you so haven't mentioned anything I might see about you. Because none of that matters. We are just here to pass the time and hopefully have conversations. We are on Earth through no fault or choice of our own so it might be a good idea not to make the lives of others unnecessarily unpleasant as life here is difficult for many and to leave this place with nothing but diatribe on our blurb sheets isn't really a good idea and will constitute a terrific waste of the short time we are here. Because life is short, often nasty and friendship is good, no matter who it is we are talking to. You may think of me any way you like, of course.  |
