No, we should reduce the population in the rich nations who do all the consumption. The average American has a carbon footprint 15 times bigger than the average African. Would you say migrating people from Africa to rich, western nations reduces or increases the population of rich nations? Increases obviously. We should invest more in their nations so they are not so desperate to leave.

The top 20 countries in the world with the highest population growth are all in Africa. Africa is experiencing a population explosion. Population growth in the US is 0.1% and declining. Come on Monte, wake up there's a good chap.

And does Montegriffo think that the "developing" nations are not going to increase their carbon footprint. They all want the same luxuries that we have. They're not going to live in mudhuts all their lives. They want aircon and cars etc.

We should invest more in their nations so they are not so desperate to leave. But that would mean using rich nation's resources and capabilities to raise the African standard of living - ie raising their effective carbon footprint

Why has a subsistence farmer in Africa got 13 children? Because he is poor. That doesn't make a lot of sense.

That doesn't make a lot of sense. It does. Because he is poor many of his children won't live to adulthood so he has more of them to ensure enough survive to look after him when he can no longer support himself. In rich countries with welfare systems more children means more dependants but in poor countries children are assets not liabilities.

Why has a subsistence farmer in Africa got 13 children? His hobby is flying his kite. Well it's certainly not wearing a condom, but that's probably down to the pope.

Surely better to raise the standard of living and welfare in Africa and other underdeveloped countries, because it has been shown that doing so lowers birthrates towards the West's average of below two per woman?
This strategy is already contributing to the world average birthrate dropping from a peak of 5.1 births per woman in 1964 to 2.4 in 2020...

You're advocating poor subsistence farmers in Africa having lots of children because a percentage who die, probably through malnutrition, have to be factored in? Incredible.

Well it's certainly not wearing a condom, but that's probably down to the pope. Bashing Rome's Bishop might be the solution for you, but approx a third of sub-Saharan Africa is Muslim...
