So we have gone from "New Labour unleashed open doors immigration" to "Tony Blair did not implement a transition period, but in reality the citizens of the EU10 of 2004 could not have been stopped from coming to Britain to work eventualy". The Freedom of Movement is not / was not Tony Blairs policy, it was policy negotiated and eventualy signed up to by CONSERVATIVE Prime Ministers. THe follow on question to both Freedom of Movement and in particular, the 2004 enlargement, is what effect did it have upon the economy of Britain ?, and as someone who has lived all my life in an agricultural region, concerned with farming, fishing, food and food production, I am adamant that it fuelled growth. In virtually every town of North Yorkshire there are food process / food production plants, indeed some of the largest in both Britain and Europe. Before 2004, EVERY one of those production places were short of staff, none of the big names which produce food here in North Yorkshire could fill all their vaccancies, all had labour shortages - but those shortages ended after 2004, and that is a matter of fact. Today, the lack of both skilled and unskilled labour is hitting our economy, blunting growth, hurting our public services, and contributing to an impending recession. Its all very well posters saying that we need to pay more in wages, but all that HAS DONE is create mega-inflation, a vicious circle with no winners. If there are actually not enough people to fill the jobs gap, then it does not matter how much you offer. Ending Free Movement, as with withdrawing from the EU, has been a monumental disaster to Britain, to our economy, to growth, to living standards and to inflation. How has it?

Published TODAY in The Daily Telegraph - Care Home Staff "Leaked report warns the sector is on the brink of collapse due to chronic staff shortages and underfunding from the Government"Published 22nd October in The Daily Express "According to the CQC, in order to fill the gaps in the workforce, they will have to recruit the equivalent to the population of Newcastle to help the health and care system which is now “gridlocked”.
The CQC have said that it is getting “tougher and tougher” to access care with 132,000 vacancies in the NHS and 165,000 in social care"Have a look at the official Home Office list of SKILLS SHORTAGES, the list now includes Non Skilled care workers to work in social care. This means that any care home can now bring in workers from anywhere in the world, and this is directly due to the ending of Free Movement to / from the European Union. www.gov.uk/government/publications/skilled-worker-visa-shortage-occupations/skilled-worker-visa-shortage-occupationsThe SKIILS SHORTAGE list is getting longer and longer, and includes Health Care workers of every kind, the situation was made much worse after the UK left the European Union - we simply do not have the people in this country to do the jobs. Manufacturing, Butchery, Food Processing, the Hospitality Sector, Leisure Industry, all have seen a massive increase in recruitment problems. I have a friend who is manager of a care home, and he is currently in the process of bringing in workers from Egypt, Pakistan and Bulgaria. Critical staff shortages directly affects growth, and it fuels inflation if employers are forced to offer higher pay in order to function and survive, no one wins in the end.

We currently have record immigration - saying that we need more and more just to stand still strikes me as a pyramid scheme.
