Six years after 72 people died, the charged remained of a monument to local government and Tory unsuitability to govern is still wrapped in sheeting that’s trying to disguise the absolute horror coming from voting in an inept Tory council and a series of useless governments. 72 months have passed and no one has yet been held responsible for the 72 deaths. This seems equivalent to the total disregard for life in the pursuit of profit to be found in the less humane parts of Asia… www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/grenfell-six-years-on-frustration-over-lack-of-change-is-turning-to-anger/ar-AA1cxUGB

But people in this country are living in dangerous buildings complying to standards that Tory donors have been promoting. So aren’t the people of this country who are living in approved buildings being taken for a ride by an incompetent government? It’s six years since 72 people died through the incompetence of those who survey and pass building standards and those who devise emergency service procedures. How much longer must home owners be forced to live in unsafe accommodation because they can no longer sell their properties? And how much longer must those who’ve lost everything wait for those responsible to be made accountable. I’m pleased I live in an ordinary terrace house built to the standards of 1850…

Grenfell - the gift that keeps on givingAnd, as noted earlier elsewhere, the reason why so many high-rise relics from the 60s and 70s still stand to serve as social housing, especially in London, is because of the duty imposed on local authorities to house anyone, from anywhere, who turns up demanding to be accommodating.

You won’t be if you try to heat it with an air source heat pump. And no charging point for the electric lemon.. Hackney is installing charging in residential streets by using lamp posts. By my reckoning, about 20% of cars are electric in our particular LTN, and can be seen charging. There are also some rapid chargers regularly used by a couple of black cabs and a local cab firm. It’s currently true that running any electric cables across the footpath is illegal, as is having a charger less than three meters (I think) from the pavement/road. But, rather like the blind eye towards electric bikes and scooters and where they’re used, cables across pavements appear to be tolerated. In some parts of the country special cable channels are being tested. This might become more common…

But with good glazing, hefty curtains, and thick loft and underfloor insulation our house maintains a reasonable temperature in the colder weather. We’re currently investigating using ground heat to raise the temperature of incoming water by a degree or two to reduce the work of the boiler. I’m also being bombarded about the benefits of solar — but I’ve yet to be convinced…

WE keep pointing out what's happening but as per usual it falls on deaf ears by those who were suckered by no more than a snotty nosed delinquent.

As I understand it the plans to demolish Grenfell Tower are on hold pending 'community engagement'. In truth it should have been demolished thirty years ago and would have been but for the immigration-fuelled 'housing crisis' in London.

WE keep pointing out what's happening but as per usual it falls on deaf ears by those who were suckered by no more than a snotty nosed delinquent. The increasing sales of EVs and cordless appliances appear to indicate it’s the entrenched Luddite type views — similar to the Fleet Street printers’ attitudes (where, ironically, the electricians took over) — that are struggling to keep up. Even Toyota has overcome its EV reservations…

In truth it should have been demolished thirty years ago and would have been but for the immigration-fuelled 'housing crisis' in London. There can’t be many cities around the globe that aren’t facing housing shortages. People moving from rural to urban areas in the same country or across borders, and growing populations, appear to be a/the major factors. London would be ultra special if it was able to avoid these common strains…

London's population was in decline until the immigration boom began in the 1990s. As was that of the country as a whole, immigrants and offspring aside.
