The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has named Bradford as the UK City of culture 2025. Poverty and deprivation in Bradford:
Bradford is ranked 5th most income deprived and 6th most employment deprived local authority in England. 15% of the District's households are in fuel poverty. 22% of children are living below the poverty line. 13% of working age people have no qualifications. 11% of the working age population claim an out-of-work benefit. ubd.bradford.gov.uk/about-us/poverty-in-bradford-district/#:~:text=Bradford%20District%20is%20ranked%205th,deprived%20local%20authority%20in%20England. Yet the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport have named Bradford as the UK City of Culture! Why? Even people who live there say it's a dump.

Bradford has been crowned UK City of Culture 2025, taking on the prestigious title from Coventry UK City of Culture 2021.
The winner was approved by Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries based on independent advice from a panel of experts led by TV writer-producer Sir Phil Redmond. The experts visited each of the four shortlisted places, which also included County Durham, Southampton and Wrexham County Borough, to learn more about the bids before making their final recommendation.
Bradford will now receive £275,000 in initial seed funding to make sure the city can hit the ground running and get the wheels in motion early as it develops its plans for 2025. This grant will help pave the way for a year of unforgettable cultural activities and events.
I guess one objective is to get chosen cities to improve. This seems better than awarding finance and advice to places like Cambridge, Oxford, York, etc.
Derry-Londonderry, Hull, and Coventry have been chosen before...

It seems to be a given that any city named as the UK city of culture must be a wonderfully multicultural dump.

This countries best days are behind us, sadly.

This countries best days are behind us, sadly. Maybe native Americans, First Nation Canadians, Aboriginal Australians, etc, feel/felt the same. But each native generation has to suck it up…

It's a sick joke. My parents were brought up in Bradford and it used to be quite a nice place, believe it or not. Now it's on the way to being a cesspit like any place with large numbers of muslims.

Won't they get a bucket load of cash to tart the place up and 'rediscover' a lost gem?

Sucking it up was not part of thaty outlook.

After a few generations of wokey , limp wristed leftiness , Sharia law will make a refreshing change 👍 😁 The problem with muslims is that most of their "cultures" seem to degenerate into sectarian civil war. The irony is that many muslims come to the UK because they can practise their religion without hindrance, but they rapidly find themselves at odds with the indigenous "tolerant" culture. So they come here for the "tolerance" but then refuse to tolerate non-muslim culture.

After a few generations of wokey , limp wristed leftiness , Sharia law will make a refreshing change 👍 😁 I said this to the gay lib dem councillor i worked with three employers ago. We were at a street carnival in Cardiff and one of the lorries was the UK Gay Moslems float. In fairness the youthful faces aboard were not remotely as flamboyantly naked as the mainstream gay pride wagon riders, but the slogan along the side of the lorry read ‘we’re here, we’re queer and we don't drink beer’ To which i remarked very loudly ‘i wonder how long they’ll stay when Corbyn’s pals in Captain Hook’s mosque get their way and start running the place’ I’d rather welcome a bit of sharia law. You’d soon know which MP’s have been on the take. Oh wait, parliaments as we know them aren’t allowed are they …
