Who'd want to join a club that would have you as a member. And that's supposed to be a sensible comment. It amazes me how on this board people can hurl stupid insults at other posters and the 'moderators' allow it. Lighten up, I take you've never heard of the Marx brothers, you're always constantly offended FFS, typical lefty.

Dear Red Rum. If what you said were true, we wouldn't have negotiated a free trade agreement with the EU guaranteeing zero tariffs and zero quotas. And as we're not part of the EU's Common External Tariff, we're able to negotiate bilateral free trade agreements and bring down trade barriers. Stop complaining. The EU is excessively protectionist. We're a lot more open and internationalist. The value of our exports to the EU are up from £236 billion in 2016 to £340 billion in 2022. Adjusting for inflation, we'd be selling £302 billion, had we stayed in the EU and maintained sales parity with 2016. The EU's share of our exports and our imports is down big time because we're being a lot more open and internationalist in our outlook but the value of our exports to it is a £38bn above inflation Brexit BONUS. It is only 'free' if we comply with 'rules of origin' standards. Why would the EU not want to protect it's market? We are a lot more open to reducing our standards. UK exports of goods to the EU have fallen by £20bn compared with the last period of stable trade with Europe, according to official figures marking the first full year since Brexit. Your statement is incorrect. Adjusting for inflation, we're actually selling more. £340 billion, rather than £236 billion. Inflation calculator: www.bankofengland.co.uk/monetary-policy/inflation/inflation-calculatorExports to the EU when we were members: £235.8 billion. www.ons.gov.uk/businessindustryandtrade/internationaltrade/articles/whodoestheuktradewith/2017-02-21Exports to the EU now: £340 billion.
commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-7851/Even though the EU takes a smaller share of UK exports than it once did, the share it took of our exports had been falling at a rate of 0.68% a year anyway, when we were members. And if it had continued to fall at that rate, instead of the EU taking 42% of our exports now, it would be taking 38%. The value of our exports to the EU has gone up. The value of our exports to rest of world partners like the USA are up as well. In 2016 we sold £99.6 billion to the USA, now we sell £168 billion. What are you complaining about Red Rum? There is no reason to go back into the customs union. It would not be beneficial economically.

The EUSSR no longer have a market wonky. That's the reason they are going down the shitter.

'We' didn't erect anything - the EU chose to put barriers in the way. How many times does this have to be pointed out to you? Because we voted to leave the club. If you leave a club you lose the benefits of being in that club. The EU isn't a "club" it's a political customs union with a protectionist common external tariff, extremely crap policies like the CAP and the CFP. AND the only people empowered to propose policies in it, are the Commission. Politically, it was a strait jacket. We'd have been mad to stay in it. It wasn't working. We're out. The trade stats speak for themselves. £340 bn in exports to it rather than the £302 bn we'd be selling to it if we'd stayed in. You voted leave, why are you grumbling now?

Well, they allow you to be hijacking a thread about GB News to turn it into yet another EU rant.

On topic Anne Diamond returned to GB News this morning to host the morning show after a 6 month break as she has had treatment for breast cancer. She looked very well and the staff gave her a bouquet, which was a lovely gesture.

True, but the loony left are all about trying to control everything and there's no limits to their extremism. They will mass-murder millions of people in this country if the opportunity presented itself. 20th century history is proof of that.

Yup, I see your point but it's a fine point. Leaving the EU was the catalyst for the EU to erect barriers. We are the only country, ever, to erect barriers to trade with our nearest neighbours, not including wars. 'We' didn't erect anything - the EU chose to put barriers in the way. How many times does this have to be pointed out to you? The UK joined a club mainly because it offered advantages including reduced and or no tariffs. When the UK left that club, why should it expect to enjoy the same benefits, while no longer contributing to running the club…?

It highlights how fast things have fallen elsewhere.
