In fairness if Brexit has been a failure, then so has privatisation of water. Which it doesn't take much working out by the state of the sea and rivers. So if the current state of the rivers and seas is an example of failure of privatisation, what was it when the business was nationalised and the state of the rivers and seas was even worse?. They were really bad before privatisation.

Sorry - I cant see what you are complaining about. If you dont like Standing Charges then go with a tariff that does not have Standing Charges. The costs involved as "supplier of last resort” scheme will still be paid as it is funded by levy on all companies in the industry. In exactly the same way as the protection schemes in the Aviation industry, the moter insurance sector, Financial Services etc etc. - it is just a normal part of consumer protection Law. Obviously you can’t,because you are wedded to the holy grail of privatisation and the infallibility of St Maggie. Were it in public hands there’d be no plethora of middlemen companies and false competition where they can run off with the cash and everyone else pays and the poorest wouldn’t be being fleeced and prepayment meters being illegally forced on people. So would you stop the Financial compensation scheme as that is funded by a levy on each bank (which everyone pays) - just like the consumer protection scheme in the energy industry?. Being ideologically opposed to the private sector owning businesses is fair enough but to then pretend that opposition is based on an issue that you support (I'm assuming you support consumer protection laws) is rather odd.

Priceless you talking about the banks who nearly brought this country to its knees, protection? Yeah you almost got that right “a protection racket “ all aided by a regulator who does their all for the businesses and sod all for the plebs who end up paying.

You've been told 5 times now that the government starved the nationalised water companies of funds. You even agreed that's what happened, blaming popularist politicians. Do try and be honest.

They were really bad before privatisation. Even though we are ten fold less polluting via industry, a little worrying in my opinion.

So the reason that Nationalised water was worse than privatised water was that it was nationalised and thus controlled by politicians.. Perhaps theres a lesson there?..

Probably not, but you are trying to convince us things are better and cleaner these days, not because of water companies for sure but outside influence not internal.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything - you are free to believe whatever you want. I'm just pointing out that instances of pollution in rivers and our coasts are lower now than they were then.

Any significant experience of nationalised industries. I have and I can tell you they were badly managed and had to much dead wood, the health service has the same sort of problems as do local authorities.

We'll never know because they never got the 20% increase in water bills. Private companies are very efficient, they have to be, both you and I know that. But that depends on competition. Just imagine how greedy you could be if you were the only one allowed to sell your products and everyone had to have them.
