Which has nothing at all to do with the point being made. You want to overturn centuries of Property Law because you think its not moral - which is fair enough and you are welcome to try it out in your country. I prefer so-called morality to stay out of it and uphold a legal system that has served us well over the years. The idea that it should be acceptable for the State to confiscate private property without compensation is a rather foreign idea that I would hope would not be entertained in the UK. 1) It says a lot about you that you think it is wrong that slave owners should not be compensated for losing their slaves, but you see no problem with the fact that the slaves themselves received no compensation. Well as I have never mentioned compensating slaves then that is something you have just invented. The UK has had property rights going back to Magna Carta - No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled; nor will we proceed with force against him, except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land. To no one will we sell, to no one deny or delay right or justice.
Well the extension of the franchise was first mooted by the Parliamentarians after they won the Civil War - nothing came of it as the Republic collapsed and we reverted to a Monarchy. It's a great thought thought that along with civilisation Cromwell introduced Socialism to Ireland. It was after the French Revolution that Parliament again became interested in expanding the franchise and subsequently enacted a series of Reform Bills. Those Bills were not enacted to spread Socialism - they were enacted to prevent a revolution in the UK and ensure that the great and good kept their wealth, influence and their heads - Socialism had bugger all to do with it, it was purely self interest.

Well as I have never mentioned compensating slaves then that is something you have just invented. Elaborate, then.

So what? There are no constitutional limitations on how Parliament may deal with anyone's property. Property does not have the same legal protections as it has in other European countries. Parliament can take every bit of property you own away from you if it chooses to do so. This is not true of other European countries.

This is the most amusing of your points. You are admitting that the franchise was enlarged as a result of class struggle, not capitalist market forces. Good man. Marx can rest in peace, now.

and Marxism will rule the UK one day, like the EU. Dunno. But the UK is becoming increasingly socialist, as this week's Landlord and Tenant legislation indicates. How many of those nasty EU laws are going to be repealed, by the way, Rubber? Why, do all Landlord's profits go to the state now?

The franchise was enlarged through the self interest of the aristocracy - feel free to see that as a victory of the class struggle. I dont think the French would agree with you..
