For a one off special I believe. Nope it's from me personally I don't speak for the Labour Party. I did expect that I might receive some smart-mouthing immature remarks from some Righties one off or a general rule - how does that allow 'the best person for the job'? I'd suggest you put your own house in order before lecturing anyone else. It doesn't, but there is a difference between the two positions. I suggest you clear your mind of the dominant need to put the opposition down. And see to putting your own house in order before lecturing anyone else.

In the year in which I was born - 1960 - out of 623 Conservative and Labour MPs, 25 were female Ten years later in 1970, out of 618 Conservative and Labour MPs, the figure remained at just 25 female MPs Even in the 1990s, women constituted less than 10% of all MPs, and it WAS NOT because women were not good enough, or that not enough women wanted to be MPs, it was because of outdated attitudes. Anyone who opposes Positive Discrimination to address the obvious inbalances is failing to understand the problem, and to understand HOW you fix the inbalance. I am, and always have been an advocate of quota's, because it has been a necessary means to fix a situation which has been wrong, and wrong due to old fashioned prejudices. Same with police officers from ethnic backgrounds, positive discrimination would not be necessary if outdated, racist attitudes had not prevailed. Our Parliament, our Judiciary, the police, and all areas of society should reflect our society. It was in 1947 that black British subjects and black British overseas subjects became eligable to join the police, particularly those that had fought in uniform during the Second World War, yet it was 1967 before the first black recruit was taken on. Clear and precise ^ unfortunately there are still many with a dinosaur mentality amongst the population.

Sorry, but that's not correct. I've seen a Victorian photo of a black police officer in Hyde Park and... "John Kent (1805 – 20 July 1886) was a British police constable at Maryport, then with the Carlisle City Police, and is reported to be the first black police officer in Britain.[1] He served seven years in the office of constable at Carlisle before being dismissed from his role in 1844..."link

The progressives hammering it in the diversity stakes... I'm not that keen on either row. But at least three Labour leaders were elected by a party that had the highest number of female MPs.
