Of course not. I wouldn't swear allegiance to anyone or anything.
Furthermore, I'd guess not many will, other than a few sad gammons standing to attention in front of the telly.

Are you going to swear an oath to support the King next week?? Certainly seems a strange development. Was there anything like this at the last coronation…?

Charles is a twat. I've read his Ladybird "expert" book on climate change. He's a total idiot.

Are you going to swear an oath to support the King next week?? I swore an oath to the Queen a few decades back, which was a necessity. I have no necessity to swear an oath to anyone now. I'm a royalist by default, thinking the current system has worked well for centuries, I sure don't want a republic like France.

Indeed Charles seems to be trying to change it by making the Monarch more important than the Crown, yet his mother managed to play that particular hand pretty well by not confusing the issue. The current system relies on the Crown of which the Monarch is the custodian, the embodiment of and protector of not the other way round. Most people prefer the rather nebulous feel to that.

Civil wars have been fought over it many times, which is why I have always said referendum is better than civil war, but it seems some are very determined that civil war is a better option. As for trying to force me to swear allegiance to Charlie is never going to happen.

Yesterday I chatted with my "extreme monarchist" neighbour - the chap who's holding a Coronation bash in his garden next weekend.
Even HE (a retired career army officer who queued up to file past the coffin last year, and proudly displays a framed picture of his once meeting HRH) thinks this whole "oath" business is rather offensive.
I'd guess that if they can't sell it to an easy mark like him, they ain't going to sell it to anyone.

We need an apolitical head of state who represents everyone, not partisan party interests

Well in that case you had better pucker up and state your allegiance to the BOE as well.

Been there, done that - got the Shilling.. Ok so you joined up and served. Fair enough. But thst is part of the process of joining up and receiving payment to serve as a member of the Armed Forces. Something that isn’t respected anything like as much here as it is across the pond, but then again until Blair kicked off his warmongering we hadn’t got involved in anything as unpleasant as Vietnam for a fair old while But this is different. Someone - i can’t imagine this is Charlie’s idea - wants the average citizen to swear an oath of fealty to a jerk whose morals are less than stellar and who wants to see everything that made this country worth defending in his mum’s first decades and his grandad’s before that flushed down the toilet. I was rather proud to be in the business of giving our armed forces the tools to do the job. I tried my damndest to make sure when the user reached the point where there was no alternative but to show the other side how well i’d done my job that it did not disappoint, but today ? I wouldn't bother, the place isn’t worth defending any more.
