The country can't afford to send half its young people on a 4 year holiday.
Fully subsidised higher education only makes sense if the numbers are low - say the highest 5-10 percent.
However, the credential system such a notion would rely on, is now fully borked, and so, any government would have to do a full reform of that system first. Nobody is going to do that reform so we are stuck with partially subsidised holidays and a corrupt system of state-bank patronage.

"Sir Keir Starmer, campaigning in Blackpool with the shadow education secretary Bridget Phillipson, said he would approach university tuition fees with fiscal responsibility because of the damage done to the economy." Another one of starmers pledges falls by the wayside showing the man cannot be trusted . It hasn't fallen by the wayside, it will just be addressed according to the economic conditions. That is the reality choice made and recognised by responsible people. While irresponsible people put the worst possible slant on it.  |

So they have now lost their values. Probably never had any in the first place. Unlike the naive hard-left Labour party you support, they haven't lost a perceivably winnable election so far. You never had to deal with a fifth column sabotaging you from within. We should have thrown your lot out when we had the chance instead of trying to be reasonable with them. |
