We'll probably never know what the meaning of life is. I read somewhere that we know the meaning of death: we die because evolution is not possible without death. Is this true? If so, does it throw any light on the meaning of life? as a biologist i was taught (textbook was ‘biology: a functional approach’ by MBV Roberts) that the sperm and egg cells are immortal in the strict biological definition of the word, meaning they cannot die of old age as they do not display the ageing process which does not begin until gamete fusion. Whether that is true i do not know, that was the perceived wisdom 50 years ago, god it makes me feel old saying that. If it is, then i don't know about the wages of sin but the consequences of sex certainly is death.

Maybe there was early life that didn't die of old age, and it died because it ran out of space / resources lol.
Could an eco system even work without death? Would the plants not run out of food etc?

Some of us cannot simply lump the Spirit and the body together and thus make the assumption that death is an end of all existence. Without a physical death then it has to be supposed that the Earth, however well prepared in the millennia before mankind, could not continue to support life. Although we might already accept that it is already beginning to struggle. It must be a purely logistical problem although of course Biblical teaching assured Adam and Eve that eating of the tree of knowledge would mean death. That rather aligns with johnofgwent's comment that sperm and ova of themselves are unable to age.

Not sure what the meaning of death is or what the meaning of life is. Surely though the meaning of living death is being made to live in Staffordshire......

It is spiritual evolution until you get it right you live one life, die and then spend a short time reviewing before off to the next one.
Conscience is a guide to not repeating the same mistakes or making new ones.
If you get it right you can stay in the spirit world.

Life is the accident of chemical events during the formation of the earth. Death is the end of one instance of that event and a return to the cycle in a form of our choosing...physical merging in burial or through transforming into heat and light with a physical residue 8n cremation. The only thing that dies is our awareness and our ability to use free will. The functioning of the brain.
My husband died four months ago. His plaque carries the infinity symbol. All life is eternal, even after the death of the planet. We are just part of one system that we call the universe.
There is no MEANING. Meaning is a human concept. Life just IS.

There can’t be life without death and if immortality were possible you’d die of boredom. Why cant there be life without death?

I hope you have friends around you.

There can’t be life without death and if immortality were possible you’d die of boredom. Why cant there be life without death? Because of the universal principle of entropy. Entropy: measure of disorder or randomness in a system, such as the human body. System: an organization of matter within a boundary that can be treated as an entity; e.g. man. karger.com › hde › article-pdf Developmental Issue The Law of Entropy and the Aging Process In other words, energy contained in a system such as the individual live body including human, or a machine, runs down at a rate consistent with the order inherent within it. If you build a bridge which does not follow fundamental laws of universal physics such as gravity, material strength, resistance to weathering etc it is a disordered system znd will fall down. It has a jigh rate of enttopy. The human body is a closed system of more or less order. Eventually it decays as parts of it break down due to the erosion or disorder of parts of our bodies. Often this due to bacterial attack or the increasing wear and tear (erosion) of of the capacity of our main pump, the heart, to work efficiently. The human body is not perfectly aligned with universal principles so we are subject to entropy. As is everything else in the known universe. Everything which is a system is subject to disorder, from mountains to microscopic life. The things which live longest have fewer systems, such as inorganic bodies...asteroids . Galaxies are a system but are closer to obeying the basic laws of physics do have a very low entropy. but eventually, everything changes. That is what death is. A change in the state of being. You cannot have life, a system, without it breaking down.

Thank you and yes i have a close circle of 4 women, a wider circle of acquaintances and am off to Boston USA at the end of september to spend 10 days with friends I have known since 1967. It will be not only a kind of sanctuary but a lot of fun.
