sandypine >> So if it is human nature, and I accept that argument with qualifications, why on earth have we spent the last 80 years bringing in as many people as we can against whom discrimination will be directed. There is also the aspect that if we become the minority will we be subject to the same level of discrimination and if so why would anyone wish to bring that about or support its implementation. There is either idiocy at work or there is a concerted effort to demographically change the UK and it is to the latter that all the evidence points whether by intent or accident. It seems diversity is not a positive thing after all and leads to all sorts of cultural clashes and problems inherent in human nature. Why should it continue? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- You sound as though your making a really good argument in favour of "The Jewish Problem" of the 1930s in Germany Decent, intelligent human beings fully accept that basically there is no huge differences between a Crowfoot Indian of Canada, a Dinka of East Africa or a tall, blonde Caucasion of Viking origin, they are all slight variants of the same thing. Human migration is something which has always happened in the British Isles, wave after wave of migrants came, and then in the aftermath of the Second World War we had a huge labour shortage, there was much work to be done, but not enough people to do the work. This is when the British government decided to embark upon large scale immigration of BRITISH PEOPLE from the Caribbean, from British colonies. Some had a problem with black British people from Trinidad or Barbados, I dont know why they did, I dont understand what their problem was. These people were British, they grew up singing God Save The King in schools and in the cinema. Some people are just so prejudiced and of such low intelligence that they could not / cannot accept people who are different, even though these particular immigrants spoke English, most were God fearing, family people, and they wanted to come here to work and make a new life. You sandypine may worry that theres a Hindu Temple in your town, you might worry that black people live on your street, or that theres a Sikh family running the local post office and corner shop; But me, I couldnt give a shit, I dont care, it does not bother me one little bit, just so long as they are nice people, and thats all that matters. Wa ʿalaykumu s-salam Peace be with you Namaste Shalom So let us unpick that. It is only decent intelligent human beings accept there is no huge difference between peoples they are all slight variants. I assume Suella Braverman is intelligent so her actions, according to your point, must be placed solely on the fact she is not decent. So we have now got to the point that there is no 'huge' difference in peoples and they are all slight variants of the same thing. So you now accept that there are differences and that people vary. At least that's a start. Human migration has always happened I have no issue with that but it has never happened at such levels without dire consequences for the people to whom it is happening. The American continent is a stark lesson as regards that and where immigration has happened in reasonable numbers we have many legacies worldwide of upset peoples who feel, rightly or wrongly, that they have in some way been usurped. N. Ireland, Palestine, Ngorno-Karaback to name just three where differences and antipathies fester for centuries and erupt from time to time. After the war there was no shortage of Labour, there was shortage of people for the army so our wonderful Labour government sent our much needed young men off to service Empire and private enterprise in far flung lands whilst importing from far flung lands labour to do the jobs that could not be done by those on National Service. Some indeed did have a problem with Black British people as per your point that it is human nature to recognise differences and to discriminate, it was by no means a one way street. I do not worry that there is a Hindhu temple in any town I worry that there are Temples, Mosques, Synagogues, in many towns in great profusion that is changing dramatically the face of Britain, primarily because no one ever said that it was a policy to do such a thing at any time in any election in the last 80 years. In fact the opposite was always what was proposed. I take it you support democracy? toodle-pip

But Braverman didn't actually say that. She was talkin about the people arriving (illegally) in the small boats. Most of these people are economic migrants since they're mainly coming from France which is a safe country. In fact they've probably been turned down for asylum in France because they're not eligible. And most of the Albanians are coming here to join the black economy and many have already been deported from the Uk previously - why else would they pay thousands to people smugglers if they could just get a visitors visa and come her on scheduled flight for a peanuts. Braverman was dead right - it's about time someone in govt pointed out the truth. It's just surprising that anyone has the cheek to say she's wrong. People arriving here in small boats are, for the most part, asylum seekers. They are also illegal migrants, teh fact we have agreed not to sanction for the arrival method does not change that fact.

"This is when the British government decided to embark upon large scale immigration of BRITISH PEOPLE from the Caribbean, from British colonies." Which British government was that then? Irregardless of which government encouraged inward immigration, it was a neccessaty because there was a labour shortage, 1% of the UK population had been killed, many thosands decided it was the right time to emigrate to Australia, Canada and elsewhere. Reconstruction was on a colossal scale, and two huge new organisations required staff, the NHS and London Transport At first the government looked to Europe for migrants, but this was not enough, and so our own people were invited to come here from the Caribbean colonies. A policy which continued on through a succession of both Conservative and Labour Prime Ministers. People from the Caribbean tended to do the jobs which were unfilled / the jobs that many British people did not want, these included working nightshifts, cleaning hospitals, nursing, the London tube, factory work, conductors and driving buses. The health minister who first agreed to recruit doctors from the sub continent in large numbers was a Conservative by the name of Enoch Powell.

"If an asylum seeker is placed in contingency accommodation such as a hotel, which offers meals, they are eligible for £8.24 per week to cover clothes, non-prescription medication and travel. They are not eligible for mainstream benefits". People may wonder why 'some' asylum seekers turn to crime. To say "Asylum seekers are fuelling crime' is just not true. Those who pay criminals to come here illegally are most definitely feeding crime Einstein. Yes funding International Organised Crime Syndicates, and they don't just smuggle people

Surely anyone who is entering the country illegally is committing a crime? Quick check brings up these Immigration offences Individuals and organised groups may commit a variety of offences when gaining or facilitating illegal entry into the UK. Some of the commonly prosecuted immigration offences are: Entering the UK without leave contrary to section 24 Immigration Act 1971 Assisting unlawful immigration to a Member State or the UK contrary to section 25 of the 1971 Act Possession of false identification documents with improper intention contrary to section 4 Identity Documents Act 2010 Entering the UK without a passport contrary to section 2 Asylum and Immigration (Treatment of Claimants, etc.) Act 2004 PS I found this interesting and informative www.ein.org.uk/blog/crimes-arrival-nationality-and-borders-bill

In the 1960's Enoch Powell did indeed call for doctors from former colonies to come to the UK. Why in your opinion is this significant? It's not unusual for governments to advertise for foreign workers. At the same time as Enoch was asking for foreign doctors to come to the UK, the Australian government were asking skilled British workers, ten pound poms, to go to Australia. What's wrong with recruiting skilled workers from other countries?

There was no labour shortage, there was a military shortage and with 6000 young men called up every fortnight that was 300,000 taken out of the job market every year and forced, that is forced by a Labour government in the first instance to service the Empire by way of peacekeeping and as regards RAF to help service airfields for the burgeoning aviation industry. By 1949 there were an extra half million + service personnel in the services against their will and in total 2.5 million men served their National Service mostly at 2 years each which is an awful lot of lost labour at a time we were desperate. You cannot want or even do a job if you are being forced to serve in the armed forces. AS regards Powell you have to get your facts right, he never said immigration was wrong he constantly referred to the effects of unchecked immigration that was affecting communities and storing up problems for the future. History has shown he was right to be so concerned. Griffiths in Smethwick was part of the same story where the concerns of locals were effectively ignored and Patrick Gordon Walker as the Labour candidate got a right pasting at the ballot box. In the end it took collusion amongst all parties to oust Griffiths and the poor people of Smethwick got Faulds who really did not give a toss for them as is clear from how that area developed.

"In the 1960's Enoch Powell did indeed call for doctors from former colonies to come to the UK."
But he didn't. Nor did any British government ever call for 'Our Own People' from the Caribbean colonies to come to fill unwanted jobs. It's an urban myth that has grown up to serve as an ex post facto rationale for the presence of such people and their descendants in the millions.
The truth of the matter is that successive governments had no legal means of excluding British subjects (not citizens since such status did not exist until 1981) from exercising their right under the BNA 1948 to right of abode in the United Kingdom. That right was abrogated by the Commonwealth Immigrants Act of 1962 but that left open two gaping loopholes which millions were able to take advantage over the next fifty years or so: employment vouchers aka work permits and family reunion.

You are quite wrong. "In 1963 the Conservative Health Minister, Enoch Powell, who later led the call for stricter controls on immigration, launched a campaign to recruit trained doctors from overseas to fill the manpower shortages caused by NHS expansion. Some 18,000 of them were recruited from India and Pakistan. Powell praised these doctors, who he said, 'provide a useful and substantial reinforcement of the staffing of our hospitals". www.historyandpolicy.org/policy-papers/papers/immigration-and-the-national-health-service-putting-history-to-the-forefron

Is that so, well when we start sending you the other way, lets see if the French decide if you are illegal or not. What does that even mean?

People arriving here in small boats are, for the most part, asylum seekers. They are also illegal migrants, teh fact we have agreed not to sanction for the arrival method does not change that fact. So we are breaking the law by not upholding the law? Refugee seekers have a right to enter any country and pass through any country they want therefore they are not illegal, this has been sorted but people like you do not seem to understand.
